In Loving MemoryIn Loving Memory

*Update* - Friday passed away 4/21/2010 just 6 days after her 13th birthday. I miss her terribly and will always remember her. I hope she has found the perfect tennis ball and is swimming to her heart's content! * I've had Friday since she was 11 weeks old. What a handful that yellow ball of fur was! She's now a 12 year old puppy and perpetually happy. Every day she shows me what a joy it is to be alive by napping on the couch, resting by the fire, eating poop, annoying her little sister Cashew with kisses, catching falling crumbs in the kitchen, hiking the canyons, lying in the sun, sprawling in the grass, wrestling with her brother Simon, stepping in mud puddles when they can easily be avoided, going for car rides and swimming obsessively at the beach. She can't quite fetch a frisbee the way she used to, but boy does she try. She's never had a bad day in the past 11 years. We love the never-ending joy and laughter she brings to our home. I hope she lives for 11 more years to remind me just how fun life can be!

Simon

Simon's Border Collie/Australian Cattle Dog mix mother brought a little pup to a friend's farm to be fed. When our friend fed the pup, she disappeared and returned later with another pup. One by one she brought her whole litter to our friend's farm. One of them looked different from the rest, possibly a different father - an Australian shepherd, we think. My husband rescued him and he became known as Simon. He is the most well behaved dog, obedient, active, calm and sensitive. He is happiest when he gets lots of exercise. We've taken him sheep herding which he loves, and take him for runs and hikes almost every day. He loves horses, and returns to our friend's farm regularly to play with them and his Australian Cattle Dog cousins who still live there. He loves his little sister Cashew and big sister Friday, although he can be grumpy with Friday if she bothers him while he's sleeping. We give him a 'lion cut' in the summer to cool off and his fur grows in fluffy again for the California winter. We love Simon - he's a special boy!

Cashew

Cashew tippity-tapped out in front of my car 9 years ago and she's been mine ever since. She had no collar, wasn't spayed and had a big patch of fur missing from her back, possibly due to stress or mange. She didn't know how to play with toys, was afraid of everyone and everything except for me, cried when I left her and didn't bark for an entire year. Well, all of that has changed! She's the most confident little dog you'd ever meet. She loves playing with her brother Simon, she defends her territory like nobody's business, her tail is always up in the air and she sports attitude - in a good way! She's very cuddly, loving and sweet and adores people. She'd spend all day in our laps if she could - and sometimes does. The only thing that gets her out of a lap is the sun. She loves sunbathing, and seeks out all the sunny spots in and outside the house. When the bitter cold California winters kick in, she starts shivering and requires lots of blankets, fires and sweaters to keep her content. We're not sure what her mix is, Chihuahua for sure. Rat Terrier? Jack Russell? Dachsund? Corgi? For some reason the toughest men end up loving our littlest dog, maybe because she's got the biggest ego in the household! She is about 10 years old now, and has showed no signs of slowing down. I hope she's around for another 10!
