Profile: I'm a young American expat living just outside of Zurich, Switzerland with my German husband. We live, in accordance with Swiss social codes, in a QUIET apartment building on a river, with a strict "no noise" policy (translation: no furry friends), which breaks my heart. I grew up in rural Minnesota with a series of German Shepherds, Malamute and mutt friends all saved from shelters. My heart forever lies with German Shepherds and the SECOND we move from this apartment, we'll adopt a little Shepherd!

As an only child for my first 6 years of life, Misty and I "grew up together" in rural Minnesota. She was my protector, and other than the pesky neighbor boys, my best friend. For 15 years, she stood by my side, and slept at the foot of my bed. Many times, she consoled me, played with me, kept me company and watched over me. She is missed, even after 10 years, I keep her picture on my desk. It's true what they say, German Shepherds really are the most loyal animals out there.View Profile
Well, we finally moved to a dog apartment, but I lost the battle for a German Shepherd (maybe once we get a house?) with my husband. We saw an Alaskan Klee Kai here on Daily Puppy in August, and he said "THAT is the dog I want!" After rigorous research, we gleefully discovered this breed was absolutely perfect for us, good in apartments, energetic for runners like us, small for first time owners like my husband, a cute.as.heck. So, for Christmas, we treated ourselves to a little Klee Kai from Minnesota (my home state), and imported him here to Switzerland. And boy, oh, boy is he one heck of an attention-getter! EVERYONE asks us about him (even though the Swiss aren't generally outgoing), people come out of the woodwork to pet this little man, and he just basks in the attention! Although he's a naughty little bum from time-to-time (as his training only started at 4mos when we got him), attacking divots in wood floors and playing "crazy klee kai" when it's bed time, he's catching on to most of his commands like a pro. His favorite food are apples, he tries to steal our beer on Friday nights (well-suited for his name, as he's named after my husband's favorite brewery in his hometown of St. Gallen, Switzerland), has an obsession with socks, and is a big old snow mouse! Look how much I wrote! I am such a sucker for my new son, as I speak, he sleeps on my feet like an angel. This is one heck of a fabulous breed!View Profile
