King Louie of Badger Mountain was dumped at a busy street corner (along with his 8 siblings and his poor scared mama) in south central Washington state. They were taken to a kill shelter but luckily were pulled by a rescue organization and placed into foster care. We found the puppies through Petfinder. Mama Dog appeared to be a small Chesapeake mix, but it's so hard to say. She could have had pit or lab in her - but she weighed less than 40lbs. Dad remains a mystery but most of the pups have coat patterns like a bird dog or retriever. We don't care. We love him and he makes us laugh every single day.

Rona's dad was a Golden Retriever, and her mom was half Dalmatian, half Black Lab. My husband took her home at age 7 weeks - she's heading towards her 5th birthday. Rona's a great example of hybrid vigor, but she's also a great example of why people should not breed their dog just because THEY like her. Her mom was not a stable animal, nor well-socialized, and unfortunately some of her bad traits were passed along to the puppies. (Our friends own a littermate) We love her and she has a great life with us but it makes me sad that someone purposefully brought 8 big dogs into the world that they probably shouldn't have. Rona is a water-loving maniac and an awesome ball-retriever. Nothing makes our girl happier than playing in water.....unless she's playing in water with a ball :o)

In Loving MemoryIn Loving Memory

Jake came from the Humane Society. He'd been turned in, along with his brother, at about 10 weeks of age. The people at the HS had to make the difficult decision to put the brother down almost immediately, as he was already deemed too aggressive :o( However, my Jake was such a sweetheart that they let him stay in the relative comfort of the puppy room for 2 weeks, which was quite unheard of at the time, especially for a larger puppy. The very first day he went out into the big kennels was the day I walked into the HS looking for a dog. I was 19 years old at the time. He completely stole my heart and I spent the better part of the next 14 years with him. I lost him in August of 2002 and still miss him. He was my Birddog, my sweet boy. Airedale/Pit Bull, according to the HS. Best Dog Ever, according to me. (He was born in 1988 but the calendar doesn't go back that far lol)
