Lucy

In Loving MemoryIn Loving Memory

Lucy (RC's Spike It Lucy) was the first of our retired racing greyhounds. She raced in Tucson, and was adopted in June of 2005. Lucy won quite a few races, and took to retirement like a champion. She joined Charlie, a lab/hound mix from the CCSPCA. Lucy was the FUNNIEST of our greyhounds, and loved to run around the house with her green dog like a maniac while the rest of us pretend not to notice. We said good-bye to Lucy on November 26, 2014. She was 14. Lucy was a great representative of retired greyts.

Sally

In Loving MemoryIn Loving Memory

Sally was a "retired" racing greyhound who never made it to the track. She joined the family in the summer of 2006. She loved to follow her mom around the house and ride in the car with her head out the window. Sally was diagnosed with Soft Tissue Sarcoma on her left leg in November 2009. Her surgery to remove it was a sucess, and she lived on in blissful ignorance of all that could have gone wrong until January 13, 2011, when what looked like a bladder infection turned out to be inoperable abdominal lesions and organ failure. She will be remembered by everyone who loved her for her silly, beautiful self. Rest in Peace My Beautiful Baby Girl.

Marcie

Marcie

When I saw Marcie (Viva's Mystique) on the Golden State Greyhound Adoption site, I thought I had to have her to fill the hole in my heart left by Charlie-her being the big, black Egyptian queen of a greyhound that I saw on the site. In person, Marcie is skinny and silky, with a crunchy nose (a form of canine lupus). Marcie was returned to GSGA after living in an apartment, and one month in she was still trying to figure out what the grass in the backyard is for! Marcie became a certified Therapy Dog in 2010, and was a regular volunteer at local hospitals & rehab facilities before retiring this spring when she was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Charlie was adopted at the local SPCA in January, 1994. He crossed the Rainbow Bridge in May of 2008, but is remembered as the first of the Peanuts Gang.

Andy

Andy

Andy (Fuzz Face Boozy) joined our family from Greyhound Adoption Center (GAC) in San Diego. He is an ex-racer who broke his leg on the way to the track. At 90 pounds, he's a big boy! Andy is named after Snoopy's brother who visits from the desert with Olaf. Fall Update: Andy continues to eat like a pig (really, there's food EVERYWHERE!), but has learned to listen to mom, walk on a leash, and other fine qualities.

Linus

Linus

We adopted Linus this summer from Hound Sanctuary. He is a Podenco, rescued from the streets of Spain, where these dogs bred to hunt are often abandoned at the end of the season. Linus is working on being brave, loves to walk and chew the faces off of stuffed toys, and eat. His large, cinnamon-dusted ears get comments everywhere he goes! His real date of birth, and age, are a mystery.
