Alaska

Alaska

Alaska is a rescue dog. Her previous owners had several other pets and due to Alaska's high energy they couldn't keep her. They simply did not have the time needed to spend with her, so they put an ad in the papers and we answered the ad in our local paper and now she is home. :) Alaska is still young and I was planning on taking her to get her spayed but unfotuneately she went into her 1st or 2nd heat and now we have an unplanned pregnancy, so I will need to keep her healthy and her pups so I can hopefully find good loving forever homes for the pups when they are old enough. I am not sure but I think the father is a JRT (Jack Russel Terrier)cause we had a black, tan & white male in our yard quite a few times and we always had to tell him to go home. P.S. Alaska looks like she is a husky/aussie shepherd mix. Wow what a mix those pups are gonna be, lol. Update: Alaska delivered her pups on Sunday June 27th,2010. ... there are 2 boys and 2 girls. She started delivering the pups at 2pm and was done by 4:30pm. I waited an additional 2 hours to make sure she didn't have anymore pups to deliver. She did lose a couple but she is a first time mom so I'm giving her some slack. Alaska is being a good mom being this is her first litter. It will be her only litter, but don't tell her that (lol). I found a new forever home for Alaska with someone who could spend all day with her and give her the attention she needed that I couldn't always provide. She presently resides in a northern state where she gets to play in the snow in the winter time and a small creek in warm weather.

Blade

Blade

In Loving MemoryIn Loving Memory

Blade is another rescue pup although she is grown now and is 7 years old. I actually rescued her and 5 other littermates. They were getting into a backyard sewer drainage system and the owner of the mother dog allowed me to take the pups off her hands. They were six weeks old at the time I aquired them and I immediately took the whole litter to the vet. They got their 1st puppy shots and medicine for worms. When I got them home, each of them got a bath (using dawn dish soap as it is mild enough to use on pups at 6 weeks. I lost one pup ... it was just to sick to save and the others I found loving forever homes for. Blade got a little cold when she was about 7 weeks old and so I put her in a small crate and nursed her back to health. The vet told me to use a childrens cough syrup and what dosage to give Blade and at what time intervals. Today she is my babygirl and Alaska's big sister. She saved me from being bitten by another dog that had wandered into our yard, when she was 4 years old. She loves to go for rides with me but insists on me picking her up and helping her into the truck. She loves belly rubs and loves to be scratched with a yard rake on her back. Mealtime is her most favorite time of day and if I'm late, she will lay down and stare at me and pout. She also loves to roll in the dirt. Update on my beloved little girl Blade. On April 26, 2012-(she was born Feb. 28,2001)-we had to take my 11 year old girl to the emergency clinic in Leesburg Florida which was about a 54 minute drive from where we live. Blade had been sick for about 3 days so I had been giving her medicine for her ailment, however she had crawled under one of our vehicles and was injured upon the vehicle being moved, it was an accident, but my precious babygirl is now waiting for me at "The Bridge". I miss her deeply, the bond we have together is still holding strong, I can feel it. I am sad that she isn't here with me in physical form ... but I can feel her spirit and that makes me feel better that she isn't suffering. RIP Blade, I will always remember and love you.

Ghost

Ghost

We rescued Ghost right before he was to be sent to doggy jail aka the dog pound. The previous owners had told us that he was well trained and knew a lot of commands and that he was an intact male, but we discovered that Ghost hardly knew any commands and had very little if any training and upon further investigation when we took him to get his shots, we found out that he had been neutered, (thank goodness for that). He probably would have produced very attractive pups but with the overpopulation of pets it is best that he is fixed. He loves to run, dig holes the size of small craters (lol) and he loves to eat ... although he used to save some of his food for our female dogs ... but now he eats all his food. He is a lovable guy and loves attention. We are presently training him and our females to sit and wait for their food after it has been put down in front of them. we are also training them to do other things, some are basic commands .... training dogs is an ongoing program, they need to keep learning so they will know what you expect of them, and it will be easier on your pet and you in the short and long term. Update on Ghost: We met someone who was moving to Alaska and we had ghost with us. When they saw him they fell in love and after a thorough background check to make sure Ghost would be going to a forever happy home where the climate suited his breed , we decided to let this couple take Ghost with them to Alaska.
