Puppies: Yoshi, Penny Lane, Mamba, Emilia, Sadie

Profile: I am graduate student studying criminal justice, born and raised in the Midwest. I'm still here attending school and was blessed enough to be able to bring four dogs into my life. Yoshi came into our home first, then Penny a year later, and then Mamba and Emilia two years after that! I love being able to spend time with my babies and take them for walks and play in the yard. They never fail to brighten each day for me and warm my heart when they curl up with me at night! :)

In May of 2007, my two sisters and I got Yoshi from a friend of ours in New Mexico. We fell in love with her instantly! She was the first dog of the house, so she was inevitably spoiled (not that that has prevented any of the other three from being spoiled!). She is as sweet and loyal as can be! She is very dependent on her owners but loves everyone! Even when she decides to bark at new people, within minutes she'll be their best friend, cuddling up next to them on the couch and maybe, just maybe, hints that she would like a belly rub! It is Yoshi's dream come true when we are able to take her back to our parents' farm where she gets to see her best friend, Jackie the black lab, and run around the farm like she was born to. She gets along with everyone and never runs out of kisses to give. I don't think I'll ever find another dog quite like her.

Penny Lane

Penny Lane

We got Penny Lane in June of 2008 from friends. She was the perfect fit for our household and Yoshi quickly began treating her as her own puppy. Today they are almost inseparable! Whenever we take Penny somewhere without Yoshi, she just seems lost. And the moment we get her back to Yoshi she runs up to her and starts kissing her and jumping on her excitedly! Penny is spunky, energetic and sassy. Most of the time she is very mellow and relaxed, but she'll have sudden and random spurts of energy where she runs in circles around the house and plays with her doggie sisters. She is loyal but not as dependent as Yoshi. She loves loves loves everyone and will always give a warm greeting with a vigorous wag of her long curly tail :) You would almost think she was born to be on a farm by how much she loves her life when she is there!

Mamba spent the first three and a half years of her life in a Midwest puppy mill. Thankfully, God sent us the angels that are Hearts United for Animals to rescue her in late December 2009! I adopted her in June of 2010. As you can see, many of her teeth had to be pulled after she was rescued from the mill due to the inhumane conditions she was in, so her tongue hangs out of the side of her mouth. She is still leery of new people (especially men) but she warmed up to me within her first day in her new home and has been an absolute blessing to this household. She loves her owners and her her doggie sisters, especially Emilia. She always has to be where Emilia is and will often settle down to give Emilia and bath.

When I decided to adopt from Hearts United for Animals in 2010, I somehow narrowed my decision down to two dogs: Mamba and Emilia. For some reason I thought that meeting them both at the shelter would make the decision easier! After many long conversations and crying, I decided that I simply had to have both of these sweethearts! I adopted Emilia in July of 2010. We are not exactly sure what Emilia's back story is. Hearts United for Animals rescued her from a local shelter at about one year old and at first thought she was pregnant. I noticed on her vet papers that she had a hysterectomy so I wonder if she was unable to deliver a litter. The only other thing I can speculate is that someone was not nice to her. She really wants to love everyone but is still shy around new people and is very reserved. She is very loving to her owners and new people once they have been around for a few minutes but sometimes even when I lean down to pet her she steps back, almost as if she's afraid she's going to be hit. However, I think in a few months or years Emilia will learn that no one is going to hurt her anymore and will become the fun, loving, playful sweetheart that I already see in her.

Sadie came to our house as a foster dog. She is a puppy mill rescue and walked around the house with her tail between her legs for the first few days. She was just experiencing grass, being on a leash, and climbing stairs. Before long, she warmed up to people and the other dogs in the house. Now, she's a totally new dog. She LOVES people and her furry sisters. We adopted Sadie in fall 2011 and she has been the perfect, final addition to the household. :)
