Zipper

Zipper

Photo Note: Zipper at 8 months old, March 2005. Zipper is a Maltese x Miniature Poodle. As a puppy, her boundless energy and keen agility earned her the name "Zipper" (her original owners called her "Muffin"). She is currently an "adult" dog (though she still thinks she's a puppy!) and was given last December to a nice family after I was diagnosed with a chronic health condition that affected my ability to care for her. Zipper is a very instinctive dog, and while she has a loving personality, she will not tolerate being treated like a "baby" or a miniature human. (FYI: I am a firm believer that dogs are happiest when they are being treated like dogs.) Zipper enjoys chewing on bones in the back yard, long hikes in the forest, a hearty meal after she has exercised, lots of love and affection, and a warm den-like sleeping area to curl up in at night. She also enjoys her role as a watch dog as well as romping with other dogs outside of her territory. If I had to sum her up in a few words, I would choose "happy-go-lucky", "spunky" and "playful."

Angel

Angel

Photo Note: Angel in our backyard in the summer of 1996. Angel was a pure-bred miniature poodle purchased from a breeder in Vancouver B.C. She was the runt of the litter and was sold to our family instead of as a show dog because her tail was docked improperly and she did not hold it "correctly". We suspected early on that she had some health problems, but the breeder assured us it was nothing unusual. A year later however, the breeder mysteriously went out of business and we were stuck with a poorly bred puppy with digestive health problems, an overactive bladder, and an extremely nervous personality. Working with our vet (a family friend whom we trusted), we did our best to make Angel happy and healthy. When our family eventually became too involved with work and school, we adopted her out to a retired couple who had lots of time to provide Angel with the attention and care she needed. We have not heard from them recently, but hope that she is still kicking and enjoying life in her old age.
