Sugar

Sugar

My husband found Sugar all by herself outside on the coldest night of Dec 2004. She was probably 4 to 6 weeks old. She wanted to play with him, even though she was so cold. He brought her home and we both swore that we would find her a good home, but that we would not keep her. We already had 2 big dogs in a small house. Of course, we were just fooling ourselves--she stayed! She was just too sweet to give up--thus her name Sugar. She has a ridge of hair that sticks up on her neck and back that almost looks like the scales on a dinosaur--it was really prominent when she was little. Therefore, her nickname is "Pup-a-zilla"! She is Sugar-sweet and Pup-a-zilla-crazy! Her favorite pastime is to bug her older brother Luke, the Lab, until he plays or goes running with her. She keeps him young!

Luke

Luke

My first husband and I adopted Luke from the local pound. We wanted a friend for our dog Angel (whose now gone over the Rainbow Bridge). Luke has always been a handful! He didn't become an "adult" dog until after he was 2--but I hear that is common with Labs. But he has always been such a funny and loving dog that we somehow got past a destroyed couch, finding the recliner dragged into the kitchen, siding eaten off the outside of the house, etc. He'd cock his head and give us that "What?" look and we couldn't help but laugh. He's settled in now to be a wonderful adult--approaching senior--dog. He's loyal, protective, sweet, and calm. His sister, Sugar, the Golden, keeps him playing, running, and young.

Angel

My sweet Angel. She left us 2 years ago. I guess I haven't looked around on here enough to know if it is okay to post our doggies that have passed. So if it isn't okay, please let me know. She was my once-in-a-lifetime dog. I have loved all my dog-babies so so so much. But Angel was that special one. I can't explain it, but I think alot of pet parents know what I mean. She just had my heart so completely! My first husband and I adopted her from the local pound. She was so smart, lively, funny, and loving right from the start. She had the cutest curled-up tail ever! We called her Frankendog, because she looked like a bunch of different breeds all stuck together--into such a pretty baby. She endured the crazy Lab puppy (Luke) we got as her companion. And it turned out that Luke was dominant. I know it is nature, but I felt so sorry for her that she had to give up her position as head dog. It was pitiful, but we didn't fight it, because we heard that it just made things worse to not acknowledge the hierarchy. She came to love Luke and protect him as his big sissy. But she was always submissive to him. She was just coming around to liking our found stray puppy, Sugar, when she passed away. She had a disease that caused her white blood cells to attack her red blood cells. She was so incredibly sick and the blood transfusions didn't work, so we had to let her go. I still miss her every day. She'll always have the deepest spot of my heart!
