Akira's parents say: Akira was born in Perris, California, and now calls Orange County, California, her home sweet home. We weren't planning on getting a puppy right away, but with one look it was game over, and she came home with us the very next day. We believe she may have been the runt of the litter since she weighed in at just 4.35 pounds at eight weeks instead of the usual 13 to 15 pounds for Akita pups, but we're doing our best to fatten up that little tummy of hers! She started off a mellow puppy who liked to sleep most of the day away, but she's quickly becoming more rambunctious and mischievous by the day. She loves to lie on our feet when we're washing dishes, attack our toes, play fetch, munch on peanut butter treats, hop in the grass in our backyard, and eat mommy's long hair. Her favorite place to nap is under the coffee table. She's a such a beautiful, sweet girl, and we love her to bits!
SO cute!!! omg, shes really incredibly adorable. like a little fox!! ahhh love her !!!
she deserves wayyy more than 11 biscuits. =]
Oh-my-goodness! Akira is certainly robust now! She's very pretty and so fluffy. Have fun watching her grow!

These are the absolute BEST pictures of a pup I've ever seen- but of course it sure helps to have such a beautiful baby to take pictures of!
Omg. I can't believe how many beautiful little puppies are in the world! I LOVE Akira! You want to have some fun with her? And this is for anyone with a puppy or full grown dogs. I discovered a toy that makes two of my dogs go NUTS. It is a laser pointer. The first one I got was at the Science Store at the mall; it was a pen/laser. It retailed for $10.00. Then, just recently I found just the laser pointers hanging on a display at PetCo. They retail for only $2.99! I picked one up. You should SEE what happens with my 2 yo Brittany and my 3 yo Sheltie! My Brittany"Ripley" goes crazy but never utters a sound as he fixes his gaze on the moving "red dot"...and he pounces and chases it tirelessly! He won't stop playing until I stop. My Sheltie, "Andy" gets totally MAD when he sees the ominous "red dot" and goes into a barking frenzy chasing and stomping on it trying to bite it and I am in total hysterics watching the two of them. You must try this with your new puppy and anyone else with dogs. Cats go crazy over it too. My one cat tries to nab it and he is 6 years old now. All I have to do is say "GO GET THE RED DOT!" And I have a frenzied Sheltie and a very attentive Brittany going totally nuts! Andy, has taken it a step further. At night when they need to go out, I take a flashlight to walk them out to the back yard; and now Andy considers the flashlight circle on the ground as another ominous "red dot" and pounces on it all the way out to the back yard barking his fool head off. I am sure my neighbors across the street love that at 3am, but too bad; it only lasts a couple of minutes and they're back inside. My dogs are my life; and I cherish every moment with them and want them to have fun filled years of happiness.
What an incredibly beautiful puppy. She has such an intelligent and thoughtful looking face. You're so very lucky; Akira looks like a wonderful friend. There should technically be several photos marked as my favorite, but I loooove the one with the carrot because she looks so affronted.
I LOVE HER!!!!!! she is just a fluffy ball of beauty!!!
and sandra hender i agree with you 100% there are sooo many beautiful puppies in this world and nothing makes me happier than hearing that they find good loving homes!!!!
Woah! That IS a small Akita. So adorable tho - looks a little
like a Shiba Inu - the carrot pic is so cute. Akitas love fruit
and veggies - I used to breed and show Akitas - your's is
extra sweet! Congratulations!
Adoradble pup!! She seems to sleep a lot. What a face! Precious as the day is long!!!She's gonna grow to be a BEAUTIFUL dog.
I LOVE the pic with the little kibble. LOLOLOL...what a little dollbaby!!!! That was so cute!!! She's adorable and just a little darling!
PRECIOUS!! What a beautiful baby, and i actually cried. I just recently lost my Max-A-Million, a large male Akita. He was 14. The best fur-kid ever in the whole world, fiercely loyal and protective, but always gentle with family- bless your baby and i wish you more wonderful, joy-filled years than with Sweet Akira than even i had with my wonderful MAX.
Akira is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I mean REALLY BEAUTIFUL.
As this is my least favorite breed as far as temperment they are astetically gorgeous. My in-laws have always had Akitas and currently have two. Their last female bit my son in the face TWICE. We thought we were being as proactive as possible after the first time to keep her away from the kids, but you really can't seperate your child from their Grandparents, and where there was Grandmom, there was her dog. Can't really blame Grandma, but it turned me off to Akitas forever. Now they have two more, but the kids are older and while there's still a wariness, the fear is subsiding. I hope your pup is a wonderful girl that brings you years of happiness as I know my mother-in laws "Nikki" brought her and my three big dogs bring me. Big dogs rule!
Ps. Your pictures are wonderful!
I love Akira too! She's such a nice "doggy" dog. She looks very tough and rascally.
God bless you all!
What a beautiful baby! I can't believe how cute she is...but in the 2nd picture, she looks like she's trying to convince you that she's a big, tough wolf! (Picture Copper from The Fox & The Hound, saying "I'm a hound dog....rooo, rooo, rooo, rooo, roooooooooo!") Sorry Nikki, you're just too little and adorable to be a big tough doggie yet! Right now you're just an adorable little pupper!!!
Sounds like Akira has found a perfect home. I bet this pic sums up her unique personality. Akira you are a cutie.
Hugs and kisses.
Amazing pix! What camera do you use and do you like it???
Very cute puppy, too! I hope you have fun with him!
Dancer4life
what a little snuggle bug.
I love her fluffyness.
I love the pic of the carrots and the one where she is asleep with a piece of food on her nose. So cute. Sound asleep.
she is so tiny I just want to snuggle with her all day long.
what a blessing from God- Enjoy!
Such a beautiful Akita, you are going to have years of fun. I have an Akita that is 12 years old. They are amazing dogs and you learn something new about the breed everyday. It's amazing to see such a powerful animal being so gentle with it's family, they will gingerly take a treat out of your hand so as not to hurt you. Make sure you socialize Akira with both humans and other dogs as much as you can. When Akitas do bite it's usually because the human was not respecting their space (they have a sensitive back and hindquarters). They are not like a lab and do not like to be rolled on their backs and have their tummy rubbed. A nice ear/neck rub will do the trick. They are noble and proud and need to be treated accordingly. Have fun!! She is going to be a best friend!!
Quite possibly the CUTEST puppy I have EVER seen! Love her! Please send grown up pictures when she's older - can't wait to see how adorable she'll surely grow up to be!
What a cute fluffy puppy!! She certainly looks energetic! My favorite pictures however are the ones of her sleeping! Adorable!
what a beautiful puppy, she will give you lots of love and devotion.
the pictures are great you did a wonderful job, leaving me wanting
more. Give your baby a hug and love for me.
OMG what a cute puppy akira is soo adorable im so jealous u are so lucky to have her! :D
Your puppy is absolutely gorgeous but i know you have to be very careful with that powerful breed! I have a mix w/Akita in her and the vet suggested I get her as socialized as possible. They have to bring all the other dogs inside when they have an Akita boarded because they are prone to hurting other dogs also. I take my mix to daycare once/week but she's still very protective. If you read about them on the internet they have an amazing history! Good luck with your beautiful baby. Her coloring is very unique!
Aww, I had an Akita once upon a time! I have always missed her, she was such a smart and loyal friend. My big protector. :) I am sure that Akira will be just that for you too. What gorgeous dogs Akitas are. Thanks for sharing, kisses to Akira!
And hard as it was to pick, this is my favorite.
To Sandrahender: thanks for the tip about the laser. My silly dog chases/licks at the cursor on the giant computer screen/tv at the foot of my (er, make that her) bed.
hi all! thanks for all the wonderful comments! just to answer some questions...
i shot most of these with a canon 30D with either a 24-70mm f/2.8 or 100mm f/2.8 lens. a couple were taken with my old point and shoot canon s500.
we have been taking akira out to socialize her. she LOVES meeting new people and her curly tail wags so hard upon meeting new friends! she hasn't had all her vaccinations so we're a little more cautious about introducing her to new dogs though i will hold her in my arms and sniff and say hello to them when we come across 4 legged friends. she has her first puppy playdate with a girlfriend's yorkie tomorrow evening! hope that goes well!
I love the coloring on Akira...are you guys fans of the movie?
or anime..just wondering bc of Akira Toriyama , the creator of Dragon BallZ and Akira the anime movie
dottiejean28: we originally wanted to name her keira or kira, but thought a japanese name would be even better. so akira it was (even though it's a boy's name!). my husband knows of it but isn't really a diehard fan. he just liked a cooler sounding name for her. =)
What a gorgeous, fun, playful pup! You are so blessed! Thanks for taking the time to post pix of akira so the rest of us could enjoy!
Akira is such a beautiful puppy!!!!! I love the pics of her with the ball in her photo!!!! She is sooooooo gorgeous!!!!!! :)
Akira is such a beautiful puppy!!!!! I love the pics of her with the ball in her mouth!!!!!!!! She is sooooooo gorgeous!!!!!! :)
Oh I want to add ALL the pictures!! What an absolute darling! You'll look back and laugh when she can't get under the table any more!
She is precious. I have a 6 yr old that I rescued from a shelter!!!! Please be sure to socialize her as much as possible -- I've been lucky with my baby. Best of luck and if you have any questions please feel free to email me.
Akira is an absolute doll, I loved seeing these pictures. They remind me of my Akita that I lost a little over a year ago. He had the same "looks" on his face even after he got older. We recently rescued an Akita but he is 4 so we missed the puppy years. Thanks so much for sharing your precious pup! It made my day!
OMGGGGG............she is so tiny and adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you have many many enjoyable years with her. Here's lotsa cookies for her too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a beautiful baby. The nice thing is, with these dogs, they are just as beautiful when they grow up.
Do they come any cuter? I don't think so.
I've never seen an Akita before, and i've heard mixed reviews on them, but this little girl is just too cute for words! she is just precious! i hope that when she grows up she is just as cute as she is now! congrats
NOOOOO! I can't take it!!!! The tiny pink toe pads are too much cuteness for one person to stand!!!
Akira looks like you could just scoop her up in one hand and nuzzle her all day!
What a little fur ball bundle of joy! Just looking at her makes me happy!! love the name!! She almost looks fake just to perfect to be real!
look at those cute little pink paws!!!!i want one! my bff has an akita. there so cute!!!11 biscuits !!!! she just like a stuffed animal!! i'm melting!!!!! XOXOX
What a cute puppy! I love it! I don't know how to get the pictures on here but if I did I would put the one at the very end! Cute!
Can I please, please, please have Akira for my dog???? She is gorgeous. She has such a beautiful face & fur that I want to cuddle up in. I would love a puppy just like her. She looks precious, when she is sleeping. I love the pictures of her with the ball in her mouth. Oh my goodness, she is just to die for.
I love the picture of Akira carrying the tennis ball (well, actually ALL of them) because her head is almost as small and round as the tennis ball and it's adorable how she's carrying it by the fuzz! I love you Akira, you little round ball of soft mushy cuteness!
Wow! I don't think I've ever seen an Akita before, but awesome choice of name first off and she is absolutely adorable! So floofy and fuzzy, I would love to hug her! Give her lots of nice pats for me!!!

has a good article about dog parks and quotes: Turrid Rugaas who also wrote a great book on dog language. Most people make the mistake of "protecting their puppies" and feeling scared which makes their puppy pick it up and become fearful. Particularly of people who face them too much, and stare. I have learned a great deal about not facing dogs directly or bending over them, petting the top of their head. They need space until they know you. Akitas have a proud lineage and one needs to know the breed. I always think 99 percent of any dog's behavioral problem is their human/person. Socialize your puppy with puppy classes, and inter-generational controlled situations, and find a trainer when she is in her adolescence (18 months) as that is the age they test your leadership. Start with a proactive program, and be happy with your lovely girl. She deserves the best and has found you.
Love that face. She looks like she's frowning. How adorable she is. OHMIGOSH! SOOOOOOOOOO cute! You are so lucky. Give her big slurpy kisses from Colorado. Take good care of her, OK?
so unique!
