Chewie the Miniature Australian Shepherd
Chewie's mom says: Chewie is the friendliest, funniest and smartest puppy. At 11 weeks he could already sit, stay and fetch, on command. Unfortunately at 12 weeks and just 7.6 lbs he still can't make any of his toys squeak. He spends a lot of time trying to carry two of his favorite toys at the same time, especially his mini tennis balls. He hates baths, rain, mud and the vacuum cleaner. His favorite activities are laying on the grass, digging and playing fetch. He has already made friends with all the neighbors and is the most popular customer at the local World Market.

Chewie is a GREAT name!!! He's an adorable pup, with the most beautiful, piercing eyes!! And, don't worry, he will learn to "squeak" those toys!!!!....and then....OH BOY!!! :) Chewie is so cute in this picture....he looks like he is "sneaking" away with one of his toys! I never thought I would say this, bacause all Puppies are speecial but Chewie is 'The Puppy of the Year'! Raquetballs are an excellent choice of toys. They are small and durable and won't mark your walls.

I've had and fostered many Australian Shepherds, so Chewie speaks right to my heart! And from my experienced perspective, all I can say is TRAINING!!! You and Chewie will be much happier if you are the master and not him. Sounds like you are starting out right with teaching the commands early. Smart dogs are the most trouble, but the absolute best!!
I cannot find a word in the dictionary to describe how all-around adorable this bundle of love is. I truly believe that in any dog breed that there are born into this world exceptional pups and this sure is one of them. How fortunate both you and the new pup were when you first met and will be in the future years to come. I envy you both! A zillion biscuits to this puppy!

Like some other posters, before discovering DP, I wasn't really aware of Australian Shepherds only having seen their pics in books but how gorgeous are they! Chewie - you deserve 11 biscuits and more. Live long and be happy little one.

I think Chewie' cuteness is "out of this world!" okok, I said it, but admit it, fellow DP posters, you were thinking it... ;oD A great name for this pup. I considered calling my Shep mix (maybe boarder collie/maybe whippet?) Yoda, specifically because of his very very expressive & flexible ears that often go sideways or backwards in addition to straight up.
In any case, Chewie is way, way too cute! I do know about Aussies & mini-Aussies. They are right up there for a breed I would love to have someday. But, as sbuent said earlier...training is HUGELY important with this breed. They were originally bred to work herding sheep, cattle, etc., & it's part of their blueprint to DO SOMETHING! Almost any physical activity that stimulated his brain as well as his body would do...obedience, agility, flyball....I'm sure you know.
All of the photos were wonderful, I picked this one because it looks like he was 8 weeks old & just coming home--simply precious!

Chewie just the cutest name. I love all hearding breeds. I have a Sheltie. Can any one tell me how big a Mini Aussie will be? I know the reg. sized Australian Shepherd's but have never met an adult mini.

Chewie has the most beautiful coloring I have every seen! He is absolutely gorgeous! He reminds me of a sweet little peanut butter cup! Many tummy rubs my little cutie!

I have a picture of Chewie's Mom sitting on my lap with the same adorable look in her beautiful brown eyes and matching lovely silky hair. Definitely takes after her sweet Mom.
The standard for a mini is between 14 and 16 inches at the withers. Based on what his wonderful breeder told me I think Chewie will be about 16.

Chewie's mommy is my best friend. If I don't give him 11 biscuits, I think she'll stop talking to me :) that's ok though, I think our relationship will survive...he deserves all 11. Lots of love to the Chewster and his parents.

I don't post very often, but this puppy is so wonderful, I had to. This may be the cutest puppy I have ever seen. I am a bit partial to any kind of shepherd dog, and this one fits the bill. Somebody who knows, tell me about the mini part of this...how long have there been minis??? There seems to be a big allowance for Australian Shepherds. They come in so many colors..this one is the best.

Thankyou "Puchina" for the size of a mini Aussey. I think I will have one some day. I love the standard size A. Shepherds. Great dogs, Chewie you are so hamsome and can't wait to see a picture of you as a grwon up. Hopefully mom will put one in the grown up section of DP.

Awwwwwww what a face!! Your Chewie is an exact miniature replica of my Luke!! He is a red tricolored Aussie but a big 'un. It was like looking at pictures of him when we first got him. Chewie is a real beauty. Gotta love those hazel eyes and silky soft fur. 11 biscuits and hugs and kisses!
It is short for Chewbacca. Here is more delightful everyday, although he is a clever little troublemaker. We love him to pieces.

All sheperd dogs are born geniuses, and Chewie too. I had a Border Collie growing up and he was so easy and wonderful. He'd respond to the slightest command or even an eyebrow raise. Loved him so much.

Chewie, if you were my puppy, I'd never leave the house....... on second thoughts, I'd even quit my job to be around you 24/7. Never have I seen a more enchanting puppy! I think it's those eyes.
