Kira Bear the Keeshond
Kira''s mom says: Kira was born in Vancouver, WA. She lived briefly in Vancouver with us until we moved to Colorado, and now Phoenix. Kira is our little person wrapped in a fluffy dog package. She is incredibly smart, almost too smart sometimes! She is very expressive. You can almost see the wheels turning in her head when she looks at you. She always wants to be with her mom and dad (especially mom). Kira is very patient. She lets me put silly clothes and accessories on her and waits patiently while I take pictures. People are always telling me they can't believe what my dog lets me "do" to her! Kira LOVES snow, which made it particularly difficult for us to move from Colorado to Arizona. She's always close by in the kitchen when I'm cooking, just in case I decide to give her a little sample of something. Her favorite food is pizza! We made the mistake of giving her a little bite of pizza crust once, and she's been hooked ever since! If you happen to be eating pizza, you can count on Kira sitting close to you and intensely watching for the tiniest crumb. And she's probably drooling. Yes, drooling! Pizza makes our non-drooling dog drool!
She's even cute upside down?! :) And pizza bones are a double addiction - she has to have them, so you 'have to' keep ordering delicious, chewy pizzas......Oh, dear...what a shame!?! ;-) Enjoy your fur baby. 11 cases of cookies.

The very first dog my family had was a Keeshond/Collie cross that someone had given my oldest brother and he in turn gave him to us. He was a wonderful dog! And Yes Very smart!!!
She is gorgeous enjoy your many years with her! The picture I chose as my favorite reminds me so much of Theo.

Also I dont generally advertise causes but for once I am forced to do so against an artist in Managua (named Gulliermo Vargas or 'Habacuc') who chained an abandoned dog to a wall in an exhibition as one of his 'pieces'. Without food and water the poor dog died of slow starvation over the next few days in plain sight of hundereds who came to see this exhibition. Horrifically Vargas has been asked to repeat this show elsewhere. In respecting the mediators of this site I will not advertise the web-address of the petition being signed against the proposed exhibition. But please do google this issue for details (use the artist's name) and then decide if you can support the petition against the next exhibition.
Once again, apologies for posting a personal cause on this forum - but perhaps having researched this issue you will understand why I thought that the members of this forum would be the best people to rally against it. Together we can make a difference!

The comment above about the dog starved to death for art horrified me and I have sent out an email to all I know. This beautiful Kira warms my heart. I never would have expected her to grow into the great beauty she is! Her look is so different than her puppy look and I love all of the versions of her. God bless all the animals and a pox on those that would heart any of God's creatures, but especially the children and the dogs.
Kira Bear is BEAUTIFUL. As a little pup she was almost too cute for words. She sounds like a wonderful dog. I hope she can handle the heat in Arizona!
Kira you are a little love bug...my Sammy (also a Kees) looks very similar to Kira except his mask is darker around his eyes! Nothing better than a Keesie Kid...loads and loads of love and super intellligent!!! We always say Sammy is our "little boy in a dog suit"! If he could talk, he would!!!
We live in MI and our summers can get pretty sticky here also. We have Sammy groomed just like Kira for the months that are the hottest!!

AWWW, Kira is beautiful!!!! Thank you for posting pictures of her showing how she grew older, that's wonderful!!! She is such a pretty puppy!! Her fur looks so soft, want to run my hands through it and give her lots of pets and belly rubs!!! So glad you found her. Best wishes for a long, happy, healthy and fun filled life for you all in AZ. You can bring her up to Montana to our house anytime to play in the snow ;-) . Love from our critter gang, they would love to romp and play with Kira, even though they range in size from 4 pounds to 35 pounds. Dogs don't seem to know their size as the little one plays with our Brittiany better than our doxie does. Henri would love to play with Kira, too. He's an affenpincher/yorkie cross and everyone thinks he's so cute, lol. Take care and God bless your family always!!

We have a Keesond mix. They are so smart - I always say she is too smart for her fur! She too, the non-drooling dog will drool while waiting for a goodie! She also lifts one lip to look like a 'snurl'! They are a wonderful breed! Ours was about 6-months old when we rescued her, so it is wonderful to see what a fluff-ball she was as a babe! Enjoy
I love Keeshounds. My kees, Grace, had cushings and I had to let her go last June. You will enjoy Kira's intelligence and companionship! Their double coat acts as insulation, so Grace did fine in the Florida heat. Give Kira a hug for me. Keeshounds are soooo huggable!
I always come back a couple times a day to look at the pictures again and read more comments. I'm so glad I did today.

dogzrock- thank you for bringing our attention to the sickening "artist" that hurts dogs. I signed the petition to stop his second disgusting show, although I couldn't read the whole story because it was too sad. I definitely urge everyone to sign the petition as well.

I was soooo excited to see today's picture. I have been waiting forever for a Keeshond picture! She is beautiful! The dog love of my life was my Keeshond. I lost Kiesha almost 9 years ago and still miss her so much. The picture I picked looks just like her. Hope you enjoy your Kira for many years and she brings you much happiness! Kira is beautiful! I just love the colors in her thick, fluffy coat. Yes, I can see where she would prefer snow to heat, with all of the hair. The pictures are darling, and I can see she has real personality. God Bless you all with love, health, and happiness.

Everybody please read the post from dogzrock. We had to stop one of these so called "artists" from smashiing a live frog "for art" in Vancouver, B.C., Canada a few years ago! NUTCASES reside everywhere not just 3rd world countries. All Life is Precious!
What a wonderful breed the Keeshond is. Our family had a beautiful Kees many years ago when my children were young. Fluffy was their faithful companion and guard. Nobody dared to go near the children unless they had her permission. She was not vicious at all, but made it known that they were her charges. Affectionate, adorable, funny.....you just can't help but fall in love. Kira is gorgeous. May she bring you years of happiness. A whole case of cookies for Kira!

regarding that "artist" who tortures dogs- why doesn't he sit chained naked with no food or water for days and have people gawk at him? Then he can truly experience his brand of "art".

I haven't read the article yet, and I'm horrified already . . what kind of society allows someone to torture a dog in the name of art?? seriously !!. . . how can you see a beauty like Kira, and all the other puppies on this site, and think that it's okay to kill another living think for the fun of it. Oh these are such wonderful bear-dogs. My sister has had several Keeshunds. Don't let her get fat cuz they have hip displacia sometimes and it's very hard on them. They are the sweetest dogs, and Kira is so yummy I wish I could rub her wonderfully soft fur! 100,000 biscuits to her!!
Thank you dogzrock for the info. I did google it, and was absolutely sickened and appalled to read about the senseless torture that this poor dog had to endure. Anyone that can treat a helpless animal as this one was, needs to be locked away so that it can never happen again to any other of God's precious creatures.

It's so great to see a Kee, We had our first for 11 yrs and lost him to cancer. He was the best dog we had ever had, so smart and obedient. When we lost him, my daughter and I couldn't stand it, so I called the breeder we got him from and she told me she didn't have any puppies, but had a 1 yr old who's owners didn't want him anymore. Well one look and we were in love. Keegan was thin, not real furry and ate anything that he could get in his mouth. With alot of love and doggie treats he is now over 50 pounds (not fat by any means) and full of energy and fur, we still have to watch what he gets in his mouth, he tried to eat our remote, firewood, socks, ect. He can now sit, shake, lay down and speak. We are so lucky to have found him.
She's gorgeous! I really like Keeshonds - they are such great dogs. My ex-boyfriend had one and I just loved him. He was like a little teddy bear. :D I wish you many, many years of happiness with this furry bundle of joy. I know she'll make life extra fun.
It is nice to see her grow but I thought we'd see some pictures of her "dressed up". She is like a tiny bear. Fluffy, makes you want to cuddle. Give nice treats, doggie treats and maybe a TINY piece of pizza. Take good care of her and she will do the same back.
Jaeger and I have that same problem with pizza! My first dog was a Keeshond and while I am madly in love with Jaeger, first loves are in a special place in all of our hearts. Kira is a beautiful girl and it sounds like she is very intellligent, so please give her an extra special hug and kiss for me, plus abou a billion biscuits!~

Wow! I'd never seen a Keeshond puppy before, and had no idea the difference between the baby & full grown version. Absolutely adorable as a pup; and breathtakingly lovely as a young lady! Just a great dog all around!

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of going to the web site to get the information about this horrendous "artist"................. ....I cannot comprehend his reasoning for his actions. The people in the photographs that are looking at the starving dog are just as guilty as he is................why someone did NOT do anything to spirit the dog away to safety is unexplainable !!
May it never, ever happen again. I have been a volunteer at our animal shelter for 10 years, and my heart goes out to all the animals that have been abused and mistreated and neglected.........thois Vargas needs to experience that old saying.............." What comes around, goes around ".
She is very beautiful and they do resemble little bears when they are puppies. I once had a Keeshond (Maxwell) and learned that the breed in general is highly intelligent. As you said, sometimes too intelligent. I wish you many, many happy years with your new addition.

Kira, it's always amazed me how much you Keeshound's look like the Norwegian Elkhounds. I have had two Elkies and loved them both. They didn't like other dogs but the breed was great other wise. I wonder if you will be the same way when you mature? Anyway I just love your cuteness and I want to wish your momma and daddy a long time with you and I know what your momma means about the lack of snow for you. My family is moving to Lake Havasu City, Az. from Mich and my Sheltie loves the snow too. Guess we will have to take some trips north (in the mountains) for him to play in the snow from time to time (O:
