Bob's mom says: Bob is now two years old, but was one of the cutest puppies I’ve ever seen. His piercing blue eye is what first captured my heart, but his spunky personality is what people mostly get a kick out of. Bob is well known at doggy daycare for being the only dog that can look over the gate to see if mom’s coming to get him yet.

by "take care of" his ears, do you mean is she going to "crop" his ears Chip? how would you like half of your ears cut off? you are no dog lover if you advocate mutilating your dog's ears just for looks.
i love the coloring around his face. it fits so beautifully with his eye color.
in fact, while there are a lot of cute puppies on here, i'd say that bob is one of the few that is stunningly beautiful! take good care of this guy or send him my way. :)

I LOVE flopsy ears. I don't like the way cropped ears look. They don't look like normal pointed ears--they are thin and look like horns to me. Regardless, ear cropping is painful to the dogs, and therefore I feel it grossly unnecessary. Even if cropping made the dogs look better (which it doesn't), it is horribly cruel to sacrifice their well-being for aesthetics.
Cropping ears is like forcing your toddler to have a nose job. Aesthetic surgery is done in humans as a voluntary procedure. Dogs don't have a choice, and it's stupid to put them through unneccesary pain for a subjective aesthetic standard.
On a better note, Bob is amazing! The nose-lick picture is terrific. I want to kiss him right between his eyes. I love how Great Danes sit with their long legs splayed out to the sides. I would hold his feet and giggle to myself.

Also, I love how he has a notch of pink at the top of his nose. My cat has that, and I always ask him how he chipped his nose. Yes, I talk to animals.

I can't believe that there still are people who want the ears and tails cut off of dogs like this. He's absolutely adorable just the way he is.

Great danes are a working breed who's ears were originally cropped to keep them from getting bitten by the animals they were working with. So cropping does have a purpose...have any of you ever seen a dog half of his ear ripped off becaus something bit it..its not to pretty

greatdanegirl, almost all people that own danes these days DO NOT actively use them as working dogs, so cropping the ears of a pet dane does not serve a purpose. it is out and out animal cruelty.

Bob is sooooo cute and adorable. I do agree that cropping is so horrible and painful to dogs. I love all the pictures of Bob, but my favorite one is that one where he is sticking is tongue out. I love his blue eye it makes him look so unique.
Nose Deep in Fluff
I was in the vet and this guy probably in his 20's was there with his two pit bull puppies. Their ears had been cropped and were all stitched up with wires. It made me want to gag, it looked so painful and nasty, all these wires poking out of their ears. You could tell that he was one of those type of guys who get pits for the image thing. Poor puppies. I'm not particularly fond of pits (my sheltie was horrifically mauled by one), though I rescued a pit/boxer mix off the street and found it a home, but that sucks to crop their ears.
Bob's Mom here....thanks for all your wonderful comments. Bob is a truely unique dog, and is a great member of our family. We got him 3 weeks after the passing of my first Great Dane, who was also a very striking animal. We elected not to crop his ears, as I think it's totally unnecessary, and is actually becoming much less popular. In fact, tail docking is becoming banned by most german Rott breeders, so I think that crop-banning will not be far behind.

Wow wow wow! He's so super cute! I love his markings, and his enchanting blue eye! We also elected not to crop Apollo's ears - he's not out hunting any boar, so it's cruel and totally unnecessary. Bob is so cute I can hardly stand it - you're very lucky!

Why would someone that loves dogs deliberately remove perfectly good body parts (ears), take a chance of putting their loved one through surgery and so much pain, just to disfigure the poor thing? How would you feel about 'going under the knife' to alter your body for no reason you could ever understand?! Danes are so much cuter with their ears un-altered. It keeps their face looking sweet, just like their personalities! And have you ever felt an un-cropped Dane's ear? It's like velvet.
Well, back to Bob...I give Bob a 12 on a scale of 10!

i love this dog i love this dog i love this dog i love this dog i (slap). sorry about that. extremely concentrated doses of gorgeous eye color combined with a large amount of natural ear floppage and buffered by a good pinch of great big puppy muzzlings will do that to me. i believe i'll just go lie down and drool for a bit.

I agree Bob is cute...however...merles are out of harlequin breeding, which is now being banned in certain parts of Europe. Any Dane person knows that harlequin breedings often produce white Danes, which are usually deaf, blind, or sometimes both. If everyone is so upset about the ear cropping, how about not breeding unnecessary health protlems into this magnificent breed??
I love his eyes! I'm from Alaska & he officially has cute 'husky eyes'. It is perfect how his blue eye is in the darker half of his face & the dark eye is next to the paler fur. Seems like a very happy dog!
