I've never been the first to post! Awesome! Charley is wonderful! Enjoy him! He's a cutie-pie!
Aug 8, 2007 pupidog
that is one wicked smile :) lolz!!
Aug 8, 2007 bordercrazed
Oh my god. You made the perfect choice. What a character! How can I truely pick a single favorite? Just when I think I have it (the first one where he's lying down, eyes open, tongue out) I get to the next one, lying upside down, to the next pcycho dog lying down picture, and then he looks completely miffed 2 pictures later....but my favorites are the continual "bad hair day" pics from that point on.

Charley is fantastic, and honestly the first puppy on here I've ever really waaaannnted...really really badly.

Charley is gorgeous! Good choice! :)
Aug 8, 2007 princessfif
This puppy is adroable! One of the cutest I've ever seen :)

He looks so happy and friendly, definitely a good choice over a dull puppy!

Enjoy him, hopefully he will continue to be fun and smiels for you and your family

I love this pic, he just looks so cute and cuddly!

If Charlie wants a holiday in Queensland Australia (to visit all his relatives) just send him over. We will even buy a laser pointer. I am sure our two older pupies will keep him busy also.
Aug 8, 2007 jevenjev
Aussie Shepards are so cute. I dogsat for a couple that had one, and he was the sweetest, cutest, and energetic doggie. His name was Ollie. He loved playing ball, and he loved people. He was 10yrs old, but seemed like a puppy. He was so full of life, and then he just unexpectantly got sick, and passed on (for the record...not while he was in my care). I only got to take care of him for a couple months, but I wish he were still around, cuz I loved that little dog.

Anyway...you guys have fun with Charley; If he's anything like Ollie, he'll have you smiling all the time.
Aug 8, 2007 cheleon
We have a 7 year-old black lab/Aussie shepherd cross and he has been a real family companion for the whole time - fabulous fun with a playmate who honestly seems to understand everything we say. You are in for a wonderful time with this handsome little bloke. Did I mention the sense of humour?? Just check out that smile :) 11 bisucits for sure!
Aug 8, 2007 rubyhatchet

Aug 8, 2007 oneacd
Couldn't decide which pic is cuter till I got down near the bottom. This one seems to really capture his wonderful Aussie 'tude! I am glad you are appreciating Charley's boisterous personality. He looks like his sweetness will make up for anything mischievious! What a gorgeous boy. Enjoy every moment.
Aug 8, 2007 OleBrumm
Oh, my goodness, what a handsome boy! I love his colouring! I also love this sideways glance at your other dog. It's a priceless photo.
Aug 8, 2007 maryandjohn
He is a very handsome lad indeed.
Aug 8, 2007 puppyluv
What a cutie! But I'll take mellow over lunacy any day of the week and twice on Sunday (sorry - my mellow Misha was stung by the "mellow but kind of dull" remark). Good luck with Jaws, oops, I mean Charley. :-)
Aug 8, 2007 Micki26
aww what a cutie! in this pic it looks like he's just daring you to come any closer :-)
Aug 8, 2007 gill

Ah-dorable! Looks like he has a mentor!
Aug 8, 2007 kalvarad
What a fun and handsome puppy! :D
Aug 8, 2007 Redwine
I love seeing the pictures of all the darling dogs. Am I the only one disturbed by the thought of Charley being kept in a crate begging to be let out to play? Why on earth would anyone keep the boundless energy of a puppy in a crate :( If your worried about your home being chewed up, then please do not have a dog.
Aug 8, 2007 BeckersUNC
Love these pics—they totally capture Charley's innate impishness. What an adorable little trickster! :-D
Aug 8, 2007 ard1108
Charley is adorable. I have a mini aussie and just love her. We always had dobermans before, so this is like having a dog for the first time seeing they are so different. Looking at the pics makes me miss that soft puppy fur.

I also crate my girl when I go out and at night. She likes her crate and goes in it by her self during the day to nap. This is also the first time I have crate trainned and wish I had done it before.

Many happy years together!
Aug 8, 2007 Babypuppy383
I've been checking this site for a long time now, but I never registered... until now. When I saw your puppy I had to comment. He's probably the most beautiful dog I've seen yet on this site, and it really makes me want an Aussie! Good luck with training and everything, and thank you for posting! 11 biscuits for this beautiful boy!
Aug 8, 2007 gend0012
I love this pic...it's as it he's saying "Don't be messin with me!"
Aug 8, 2007 Yourmomsage
Puppies with EYEBROW DOTS two days in a row....I'm in heaven!!!!
What a cutie you are, Charley!!!! Such an expressive face, it's hard to choose a fave pic, but I do love the "Portrait" pose. Love the pix with your brother dogs, too, and the upside down one, and the ones with toys, you're just cute in every picture!!!!
Aug 8, 2007 bopeep
Charley is adorable. Surely dad, you didn't mean to imply that Charley is only let out of his crate for some play time, and then back in? Don't like to be negative, but your comment disturbed me. Anyway, hugs and kisses to Charley.
Aug 8, 2007 stormdog
Oh, sweet puppy dog! How sweet your eyes are and that big smile of yours. It shows that you are being well taken care of by your pet parents and I know you will bring them tons of love and joy! Again, I just love the fact that you will grow up to be a big teddy bear of a dog, one that your Mom will be able to hug and give you plenty of good, good sugars!!!!
Aug 8, 2007 BeachLover
This pup is OOOOOZING with personality. His eyes sparkle with mischief and energy. What a little dynamo. : )
Aug 8, 2007 Nosmo Rex

Aug 8, 2007 guersh123
Love this picture.....looks like Charley is saying "Another picture??"
You have a beautiful puppy!!!! God bless Charley and his family!!
Aug 8, 2007 three_pets
Beautiful dog! About the crate training... it is one of the best ways to train a dog. They learn that it is their "home" and it becomes a place of security for them. We crate trained our Weimaraner, who is now eight years old. Although we no longer use the crate, she has a "home" in our workshop that has access to her dog run. She has gotten so good that she waits by her door to go home when she realizes that we are leaving the house for work, movie, etc. The crate was never used for punishment, as it shouldn't be. So let's all be positive and just admire the pictures of this beautiful puppy! Your Charlie is so handsome! I love his "hair"!
Aug 8, 2007 three_pets
Sorry, Charley not Charlie.
Aug 8, 2007 CharleysDad
Thanks for all the kind comments - we'll pass them on to Charley, they're sure to go to his head. Charley is indeed a fun and boisterous companion - he still has plenty of "puppy" in him - he's about 15 months now (the pictures are from when he was 12 weeks old). As I mentioned, he's hanging out in Maine with his Mom this summer - having a great time playing with his cousin dogs and cats, swimming in the ocean and just enjoying life.

For anyone concerned about the crate - don't be. Crate training is a time-honored way to raise an energetic dog. They learn to treat the crate as their "home" and it gives them a place to relax and be stress free. "Working" dogs are very smart and energetic, and can get stressed out when they're just left to wander around. Be assured that Charley gets plenty of exercise, attention and love. He chills out in his crate when we're out of the house and at night, and when he needs a break during the day - he's quite happy in there. If you want to know more about crate training, or dog training in general, I recommend this excellent book.
There are more pictures of Charley here.
Thanks again for all the great comments.

Again, the picking a picture thing does not work for me. Just takes me back to the main page.

I love the picture of Charley with his red ball and tire. Looks like he's saying "This is MY red ball and MY tire. Go get your own!"

Charley has beautiful markings and a sweet face. Congratulations on making the right choice!
Aug 8, 2007 Yankee-7
Oh! Gosh! Aussies never were my FAVORITE breed, especially because of the one blue eye, one brown eye most of the time... but this here Charley is the cutest I've seen, and has made me appreciate the breed MUCH MORE!
Tell the little guy to have fun with his swimming lessons!
About Three Pet's comment - I agree. Crate training can be helpful, but NEVER should be used the way Bopeep implied.
I love Charley!
Aug 8, 2007 Yankee-7
PS. Doesn't he look sorta like a Bernese Mountain Dog to you :?: :?:

What a goregous puppy! You can see the mischief in his eyes! He looks like lots of fun.
Aug 8, 2007 nash5081
Charley is so cute. If he were mine I'd stay home and play with him all day. I'd have to just tell my boss, "Sorry, I have the cutest little doggie at home, and he needs to be played with, so I'll see ya in a few months" I bet he'll be diving off that dock soon, and then you'll never be able to stop him. You'll be so proud!!!! Absolutely 11 biscuits for Charley, and you guys enjoy the rest of your summer!!!

I love this picture. My lab mix gives the exact same look....we call it the "crazy eye". Love it! The larger black dog in the pictures reminds me of my dog, Payton. Charley is a cute pup! I bet he has really grown since these pictures were taken! :-)

<<REGARDING CRATING>>
From the ASPCA:
Crates can be easily misused.
- The crate should NOT be used to contain a dog simply because the dog is a nuisance and requires attention. A puppy or young dog can be annoying and exhausting, but it is unfair and negligent to lock the animal up rather than provide the training he needs.
- A dog should never be left in a crate for extended periods of time. An 8- to 16-week-old puppy should not crated for longer than an hour at a time, except for during the night. A four- to six-month-old puppy shouldn’t be crated for longer than a two- to three-hour period.

What a truly gorgeous puppy...his coloring is so unusual, and so wonderful....He seems to know his place in the pecking order and it certainly isn't letting the big dogs intimidate him...looks like an "alpha" doggie to me....Want one just like him.
Aug 8, 2007 dottiejean28
aww...why did you send him away to maine? is it a puppy obedience boot camp place? He certainly looks like a little Rouge with his sly smile and drop dead gorgeous eyes...this pic here reminds me of Hef at the Playboy mansion...relaxing with his ladies lol

What a pretty boy! GREAT personality & sure to be a wonderful, fun companion!

And yes, crates are much loved by the burly, energetic working dogs. It is a very personal spot for them & most go in there many times during hte day on their own is it is a favorite nap spot. Try raising a rottie for instance without a crate & they just won't like it. They prefer having their own room (& can hide the other dogs toys in it too). = )
Aug 8, 2007 ginnieliz333
What a sweet baby! Please give him a belly rub from me!
Aug 8, 2007 debora

{quote} Don't you Dare !!!
Aug 8, 2007 Lizanne
Well, gang, I am not new here but I can't seem to get it to work today.
First, I do not seem to know how to do the quote thing, and as easy as pie is click on the beautiful picture of my choice, and it will show up; alas, but the photo did not show. Just imagine that you see the photo of the beautiful Charley with the red ball and the little black tire, and he sort of implies, "Don't you Dare"!!!

Oh, well, I tried.

Aug 8, 2007 McKennasMom
hehe - this pic made me laugh out loud - seriously! He looks like he keeps life so much fun.....and active for you! :) SOOOO incredibly handsome too - but he's definitely got that mischievious eye. ;)
Aug 8, 2007 McKennasMom
OH and to add to the 'crate debate,' my border collie loooves (for lack of a better way of describing it) her crate. She automatically took to it as her personal space and still goes in it when she needs to be 'away.'
Aug 8, 2007 easycompany
I love it. Nice pictures I also have a Aussi but it has a little Rottweiler in it!
Aug 8, 2007 cutepupzrule
I concur with the other posters, Charley's got quite a mischievous range of expressions. In this pic he's all "These are my toys, and if you try to come any closer you will regret it!"
Aug 8, 2007 bopeep
I never meant to imply that crate training was wrong. I was just concerned the way Charley's dad wrote up, as if he is locked in his crate other than playtime and necessary breaks. I had a greyhound whose refuge was her crate, but she was able to come and go as she pleased. I also understand the crate when leaving for short periods of time.
Aug 8, 2007 oneacd
Crates are the bomb says Storm the 1 yo rescue Malinois. Without one, I would electrocute myself daily (I love electrical cords!) and probably climb out the screened window. No baby gates can hold me in (or out)!
Those of us with reeeeealllly boisterous and athletic dogs would have disaster on our hands without them, so we tend to speak of them very fondly. I think that's why Dad wrote it that way (BW!)
Aug 8, 2007 Puppylove13
Don't even think about it, bud!!
Aug 8, 2007 momma
Any dog that smiles as much as this one seems to is one with a wonderful personality. He will always be your loving friend. As far as the crate goes, my little Papillon loves his - it is his refuge, where he goes when he needs to get away from the noise and frustrations of daily life. We used to take him in it when we went in the car, but at nearly 3 years he now considers himslf all grown up and doesn't want to ride in it in the car any more. But there has never been a door on it except when we went somewhere, so I know he loves it. He decided it was his refuge all by himself.
Aug 8, 2007 sweetie6226
Awe...SO CUTE! Love those flaming orange eyebrows!
Aug 8, 2007 lisaivey
Nope, uh-huh, can't do it. There's no way I can pick a favorite pic out of these - they're all adorable! I love Charley's coloring! The camera definitely loves this little face.
Aug 8, 2007 guido's mama
What a face!!! What a beautil expressive Charley!! Thank you for sharing him and making my day just a little brighter for having seen him. Whatta PUP PUP!!!!
Aug 9, 2007 bordercrazed
ah...the crate. By the way, Charley is just as cute tonight as he was at midnight previously.

Anyway, my first Border Nut I stopped crating because it seemed "cruel". She consequently ate my woodwork, all my shoelaces, and gnawed on some chairs like she was a beaver. After all that havoc, she would "crate" herself under my bed for the rest of the day. My second Border Nut I crated when I wasn't home and at night until she was 1 1/2 years old. She got mad when I put it away, so I put it back up, put a towel over the top and she literally crates herself quite often. In fact, I think she's probably in there now....either that or she's "crated" herself under the back of the clawfoot tub.

See....dogs are DEN animals. Dogs like small, secure places. Sure, they can be abused, but does Charley look abused? Good lord, he's the happiest healtiest looking dog I've seen in a long time.

If you want a well adjusted dog, use the crate.
Aug 9, 2007 lotsapets
PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE COMMENT ABOUT CRATE TRAINING FROM
"BOPEEP'.........CRATE TRAINING IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR DOG, AND I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE AFTER DOING TWO DOGS THAT WAY.......THEY USE THEM TO SLEEP IN (WITH THE DOOR OPEN), AND WHEN THEY WERE PUPPIES, THEY STAYED IN THEM WHILE I WAS AWAY FOR 4-6 HOURS......AND THEY ARE WELL BEHAVED, TOO. MANY, MANY BISCUITS FOR CHARLEY !!
Aug 9, 2007 kwikwitz
Charley's personality radiates from each photo! Charley is such a handsome fellow too! Your "supermodel" doggy loves the camera!
Aug 9, 2007 bajacharliegirl
He's soooooooooooo cute. I also have an australian Shepherd named Chew Chew Charlie, and as the name indicates, he was also a chewer and his favorite toy is the laser too!! Love your pup.
Aug 9, 2007 psycheknot
What a sweetheart! I registered just so I could leave a comment for Charley, partly because he looks very much like Brassy, the Aussie my family had when I was growing up, and partly because he is almost unbearably cute. ;)
Aug 9, 2007 ruk
"Sassy" Charley! What a doll baby! Beautiful puppy....LOL from Michigan!

Might add, crates are the bomb! I have a six year old Springer Spaniel who LOVES her refuge. When momma has to go "bye-bye", in her cage she goes. If it took it down, she would be so lost.
Aug 9, 2007 dogsrule
This little baby is just crackling with smarts and personality!

I love him! I had a Border Collie when I was a kid and Charley looks just like him. Smart, fun, cute, protective, obedient, playful. One of the best dogs in the world. You are so lucky to have him. :)
Aug 9, 2007 dogsrule
re; crates.

I've had dogs all my life. I am not a fan of crates.

Sure, my Pom pup likes to sleep in his with the door open [it came with the adoption otherwise I would never have one] but there is no way I am locking him up in it for hours. I know people who leave their dogs in these things all day long and I think it is horrible. When I adopted my Pom puppy I was told to crate him while I'm at work to house train him because they are 'difficult'. And you know what? I never did and he is housebroken just fine.

But that is just my 2 cents and a life of experience loving dogs.

OK, Bopeep, we forgive you... I understand your concern about the way Charley's owner wrote about the crates, but, like we all said up there, don't be... it's no big deal.

Sep 30, 2007 AussieLuv
Charley, you are beautiful! In fact, you settled the debate for my husband (who wanted an Aussie just like you) and me (who wanted a Lab)......we got an Aussie because you melted my heart and I couldn't resist any longer! :-D Thanks for sharing all the wonderful pics.

PS - Aussies and Bernese Mtn. dogs do have very similar coloring, it is explained in the history of the breeds if anyone is curious, and contrary to their names, they aren't from Australia. As for the ever popular crate debate.... dogs are den animals, they will seek small enclosed places (under tables, chairs, couches, beds, etc) - crate training is natural for dogs, it's generally the humans who have the issues with it. ;-)

Charley is soooooooooooooo cute!! Where did you find him? Could you give me the info? We just lost our Aussie male dog for 12 years. He had a PHD from UCLA in Philosophy. We really miss him. :( Many thanks. -Amanda and Mark
