puppyluver & Rebekah:
We have a really really cute Australian Shepherd coming up soon, also a Swedish Moosehound (ever seen one of those?)! Thank you both for sharing your feelings about the puppies.
Swedish Moosehound . . . I don't think I've heard of those yet . . . looking forward to that!

The Hovawart is a very old German working dog breed. The name's origin stems from Middle High German (an old form of German); Hova = Hof (= yard, farm) and wart = Wachter (= watchman). Since 1922 the breeding of this breed, by using dogs similar in type still found on farms, has been restored. Apart from this, in the early years of breeding, crosses with German Shepherd Dogs, Newfoundlands , Leonbergers and other breeds were admitted. Due to the strict measurements taken in selecting the breeding stock, the original working type was attained again.
In the country of origin very great importance is attached to the health of the Hovawart. Especially the presence of hip dysplasia has been reduced to a small percentage by selecting, for decades, breeding stock free from dysplasia. It is to be excepted that all other Hovawart breed clubs will aim for this exemplary goal.
If you ever get tired of him i will take him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he is soooooo cute! I am in puppy love!

One of the few
Google: "Hovawart". Your history of the breed is fine, but I challenge you to check out the standards for the breed. I am sure you will a agree:
Cody is a very cute, non-Hovawart puppy.

Very cute...but all puppies are cute. Could use some help in finding a Hovawart puppy, as we lost our companion "Harley" a few months ago. Any help about breeders in the Northeast would be appreciated. Thanx
cody's mom: i've never seen a hovawart before, and this one is awfully cute. how big will he get? his coat is just awesome. thanks for the info on his breed. will we see more cody pictures soon? i sure hope so.
While he is adorable and may have Hovawart blood in him, he would not be accepted by the standards of Hovawart breeders. There are only three distinct colors: black, blond and black & gold. www.americanhovawartclub.com
Cody is so cute! I too have a hovawart named Molly who is 3 years old, as you know, hovawarts are very rare. I am still tying to learn more about the breed.
Cody's mom apprently bought from a backyard breeder or a puppy mill. He is adorable but is NOT a Hovawart. Please educate yourself Cody's Mom: http://americanhovawartclub.com/
