Nov 19, 2006 Dee
Husky's are beautiful dogs, but IMHO they do not make good house pets, their sheding is awful, because of what they were bred to do, and to survive doing it, when this breed gets loose, they kill things. They bark alot and they howl, and I do not feel good about this breed, cause one bit me savagely. I know their are exceptions to every rule, stunning animals, but ya better be a darn good owner for this breed, ya gotta have savvy for this one

Lighten up Dee! I am sorry you were bitten but there are some humans that do not make good housepets either. And humans' bites are worse than their barks. This is just about one mom and her pups. Leave it at "awwww, how cute".

Your Puppies are beautiful. Husky is a special breed, you need to be a good pack leader. I had one when I was a kid, my Dad was his Master, and the dog bit me severely when I tried to discipline him. Couldn't play piano for a month!Darling at puppy stage.
I switched to cats instead. Soft and cuddly, and aloof.
Nov 19, 2006 Julia
I don't think there is anything wrong with people spreading the word about certain breeds that can be more difficult to train. After all, people who look at this website frequently may start to consider certain breeds for adoption/purchase in part because of the photos and comments here. As long as the comments are not directed at the owners, and as long as they are constructive, I see no problem with people voicing said concerns.
That being said, it is very important to research the qualities and characteristics of a breed before deciding on which one best fits your situation.

In other news, these pups are tiny bite-sized morsels of pure joy. Goodness. I snarfed when I saw the last photo.

Who is the owner of this husky? The bitchs name is Inga. Perhaps Michael owns this bitch as well?????
Again I would like to encourage owners posting litters to let the public know the show history, titles held, testing done on their bitches.
Educate properly here!
We all have a responsibility to these animals!
DO NOT BREED PETS!!!!

As to huskies/mals being great housepets. Well as I have/do own them, well to be honest you better be willing to live with hair EVERYWHERE. Constant brushing, a cold house to keep them cool, a smart dog that is hard to train, a dog that is driven to work, needs a fair amount of exercise and likes to hang with their humans.
So people, please, please, please do your research before going out and buying a puppy. Do not support BYB'rs, Mills or Hobby breeders. If you want a purebred pup then go to a responsible breeder who does it only for the betterment of the breed.
Enough Said, however, one final thought!
Folks the only way to stop back yard breeders is to educate the public to buy only from quality breeders or to rescue. If you are interested in a particular breed then get online and visit forums dedicated to that breed.
Please don't buy puppies because they are cute!
Nov 19, 2006 Concerned
I make one revision, after looking I see that Michael posts all of the pictures. So probably not his.
However, I still believe it irresponsible for the admin to be condoning and posting about pets being bred.
Nov 19, 2006 stellans
Siberians are darling puppies, but as others have said, can be difficult for inexperienced pet owners. Do your research, and support responsible breeders. Or better still, adopt from your local shelter or rescue organization. I share quarters with 3 rescued cats and 1 rescue Westie, and one Westie purchased from a breeder.

Beautiful puppies!!!!!!

My sister had a sweet and gentle husky for 14 years...no problems ever. I always think a dog will reflect the personality of it's owner. Just make sure you have a good vacuum cleaner and then look forward to years of fun and loving with this intelligent and enchanting breed!
Nov 19, 2006 CorgiMom
I love this picture! Inga is such an attentive mama! I agree with some of the comments, but disagree with the idea that huskies are natural killing machines. Like ANY working breed, they need regular exercise, but they can be WONDERFUL pets. Just be prepared for challenges when you take them to obedience classes. They want to pull - it is in their genes - so heeling does not come second nature. Just as it is hard to get herding dogs to walk ankle to shoulder (mine walks ankle to muzzle or behind, no matter how much encouragement) it can be hard to get working dogs to not pull. Just ask my parents who had to get special harnesses to keep their boxers from pulling. :-) Beautiful, well-marked huskies!
Nov 19, 2006 AmericanLady
Enjoy your beautiful huskies! I have a silver siberian that i bought in another state as a puppy. My husky has been very loving, easy to train and I honestly don't know what all the hype with some people! And ya know what - I applied to several adoption rescues for a husky and No one ever called me! Too bad because both my dogs are in a loving home and receive the best!

Very adorable dogs. Huskies are excellent animals. They are not savage beasts like Dee says, she is misinformed. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners. Do not stereotype a breed due to one dogs actions, that gets dogs killed for no reason. We need to be careful what we claim, and stop Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, Am Staff Terriers, Bull Terriers, German Shepherds, Huskies, Chows, the list is growing of dogs that are being seized from their owners (yes this is in the USA!) and killed due to their breed only. Some shelters have to kill due to breed alone because of ignorant legislation. So these babies are beautiful, be careful what you say because you are infecting minds and spreading stereotypes that end up fatal for many innocent animals.

The CUTEST thing on earth!!!! :D
Nov 20, 2006 Doggy Lover!
I NEED a Husky in my life! I have to get another one.

I agree with Nimikov, "no bad dogs, just bad owners". Dee is obviously very biased as one bit her. Don't take what happened with ONE dog out on an entire breed - that's ridiculous. And, I'm sorry, but I grew up with Huskies (several) and never ONCE had a problem. As a matter of fact, I have known Bichons, Maltese and Black Labs that have bitten (which proves to me it's the owners). Maybe the training or the owners were the problems with these dogs that bit people.

And, why is "concerned" so negative? Maybe some people just aren't ready for that type of responsbility.
Nov 20, 2006 Kiragirl
I also agree with "Nimikov." My Husky was a sweetie who loved kids; but did not like small animals and was jealous. Loved people, but I always felt safe with her around; she was a good judge of people. Listen/watch for their signals, they're very intuitive.

Julia, you missed my point entirely. To say that I have concerns about chows because I hear they bite is ridiculous. To say that I have concerns about pit bulls because I hear they attack other dogs is ignorant. To say that I dont think Huskies should live in peoples houses because one time a Husky bit me is plain DUMB. Any animal owner should be savvy Dee. Then their dogs wouldnt 'savagely' bite people. Dear Julia, my point was that because people associate certain occurances and incidents with the breeds they just so happened to occur with, is a problem, and it gets innocent dogs killed in shelters just because they are of a certain breed. Should we start killing people in prison because they are of a certain race? Its the same thing. To say that black people steal is as unfounded and unintelligent as to say that Huskies are savage beasts who kill. Its all racism. Anything that speaks against an entire group of individuals based on one ideal, is all unfair.

How about we dont air concerns about breeds and air concerns about humans who are irresponsible. I have a concern about my neighbor who keeps his Springer Spaniel chained up to a pole in his back yard. He turns circles all day and has worn a path in the grass. He pees and poops where he sleeps. He is now so neurotic that he snaps at the man's children and barks constantly. This is a springer spaniel people... not a pit bull or a husky... its all in the way we treat them. Not in the breed.

I had a Samoan Huskey from age two until I was thirteen. Tiffany Ann was my best friend. She was so intelligent. She was the best mother anyone could ask for. She even adopted the cats Kittens and raised them. She was so gentle. One time she got in the chicken coupe and we found her with baby chicks running all over her body. The hens were scared in the corner. But the little chicks were having a good time. Tiffy was a good judge of character. My dad brought home a male samoan to mate her. My dad found him in the paper. The people lived in the city and said the dog had been in a dog fight. But how great he was. Tiffy hated him. He liked Tif. We had to chain him up because he killed our goose Peter. Then on Mothers dad he ate half of one of our lambs. My dad put him down because he didn't want him to hurt one of us kids. But in the whole time I had Tiffany, never once did she bite me. She always protected me and loved me. We would go sled riding together. Huskey's are supposed to pull the sled but not her. She would jump on it with me and I would pull it back up the hill. All she did was love me. As she got older we had to shave her fur because it gets real hot in the summer and she would have a seizer if we didn't. The first time my uncle trimmed her up like a poodle. She was so insulted and cried real tears. She wouldn't leave the garage for a week. Then she got used to each year after that. She loved the winter hiding in the snow with only her eyes and nose showing. We had to be careful when we plowed. She loved the UPS man. On a few occassions she ran away with him. A few miles down the road he would find her in his truck and have to turn around to bring her back. She was the best dog ever. Even better than Lassie. So I agree with Niv. It's the owners that make the dogs personality. We didn't have the male dog but two months tops. So I think his previous owners must have been unkind to him. These kinds of dogs need exercise and room to run to wear them selves out.
Nov 21, 2006 Bunnied816
Beautiful, beautifu pups! 4th & 5th pic down - those eyes...soooo expressive!

Must chime in on the issues here...

Partially agree with Nimikov - "No bad dogs, just bad owners." Maybe not "bad" owners, but certainly naive/ignorant. Very sad to see people choose dogs as though they were buying furniture. I make a point of trying to educate anyone who mentions in my hearing that they're considering getting a dog. In this day and age - when information is so readily available - there is no excuse for not doing research. IMHO, choosing a dog should involve the same effort as one would put into buying a house. Both are long term commitments, involve a great deal of investment (both monetary and emotional), and you need to have a clear picture of what you want!

Also, could not agree more with the idea that breed-related legislation is horribly wrong!! Denver has enacted a "no-Pit-Bull" law. I live in Colorado Springs, about 60 miles south. The result of this law? Many, many abandoned Pit Bulls turning up all over the place. So, you have frightened, hungry animals turned loose, and some of them do attack. Because of their breed? No - because they're frightened and hungry. And the species they grew to rely on - humans - now frequently chase, yell, frighten or injure them.

The answer is more education, not legislation. Any dog - regardless of breed or size - should have basic training and be socialized, both with other dogs and with humans. So when you hear someone talk about getting a dog - EDUCATE THEM! It's our responsibility as Dog Lovers.

Okay, off the soapbox...

Beautiful babies...
Nov 21, 2006 renee
Why are they allowed to just get rid of that type of pet and not grandfather clause the fact the dog has been living there. It is so cruel to just ditch the dog and let it starve. No wonder they have been attacking people. They are hungry.

What did they expect people to do with these pets? Did they think people were going to have them destroyed. Why didn't they have a drop off center set up. Or make some kind of puppy farm to be humane. Let them live out their lives.

Any dog can bite you. I've been biten by a scottie that looked cute, a dashhound, etc. But then I've been love by German Sheperherds, pugs, chows, etc. I think pit bulls are cute. Personally, I wouldn't own one. I like fluffy dogs or so wrinkly the are ugly dogs usually. The little Boston Terrier on here today is just so damn cute. I just want one like her. She could even go to work with me.

But I feel horrible about what you just told me. That dog is scared, hungry and unable to trust people now. My pug Bruce was found abandoned in front of a college dorm room. It took campus police 3 days to catch him. He was a great family pet until he died of kidney failure suddenly. He was my mom's best friend.

PUNISH THE DEED! NOT THE BREED!!!
Nov 22, 2006 Alice
I have had two Red Huskies. Both were extremely kind dogs. The first was a female, got her as a puppy, named her Bandit because she had a mask. She was the best dog. She never chased the cats and the cats loved her. One would even follower her outside and that just drove the Irish Setter next door crazy.

The second was also a Red Huskie and looked very similar to Bandit, but he was a stray that showed up on our front door and we kept him after trying to find his owner. We named him Wolf. He also had a good personality, but did not get along very well with the cats, but never hurt them. Bandit died shortly after Wolf arrived, but she was fourteen, and we had to put her down.

Now both dogs shed constantly, and that was really the only problem I had with either of them. I found them both to be extemely stubborn, but that is their nature. They were always lots of fun, and relatively quite dogs. They never really barked, but they did have a way of talking to you. Neither dog was aggressive, but if they didn't like you they would growl. And that was a very rare occassion. I would love to get another Huskie, but the shedding finally got to me.

After Wolf died, went for something smaller that doesn't shed. Now we have a Schnauser/Terrier mix, named Harley. Definitely different that the Huskies. We call him our little terrorist, as he is quite the barker.

While several of you make good points, this website is to admire cute puppy pics like this one, not to go on and on about breed characteristics and responsible breeding!
Nov 23, 2006 Michele
I owned a white husky. He was beautiful and the most loving dog. He did not have a mean bone in his body. However, he had wanderlust beyond belief and was constantly jumping the fence. Our next door neighbor was terrified of him and would call the humane society every chance she got. He could not bark or he didn't. He did however "talk". He disapeared last year at this time and we miss him bunches but the head ache of constantly trying to keep him in the yard is not. This is a great breed but it is definitely one that needs obedience school.

Very precious pups. They are so cute when they are babies!! And just absolutely GORGEOUS as adults!
We just got our first Husky baby, she is 7weeks. She is beautiful, stubborn as heck, loveable and really thrives on attention, doesn't like to be left alone. I knew all of this before we got her. I did a lot of research on the breed first. They are usually described as loving, stubborn, shedding, escape artists, a bit more challenging to train (again they are stubborn!) So far my baby is great, training will be an ongoing process. I knew this going in and prepared.
All dogs in all breeds are not alike, there will be good and bad, no matter what the breed. It is how the dog is brought up.
Take care everyone and love your dog like it is your child! Good luck to all of you with dogs, love them, enjoy their puppyhood, it doesn't last long!
Nov 27, 2006 Missy
Huskys are adorable i just love them!My neighbor has a siberian husky. What a doll she is, she is protectivve of her family, but not to the point she would hurt or harm anyone. She was raised with the kids and their other dog(Lab mix) since birth and loves them so so sooo much its so obvious you can see from being at their house that its true. I've heard they can be tough for a first time dogowner but since i don't have firsthand experience, i dont know the full story. Anyway these pups are adorable! inga is also a beautiful dog, its obvious where they get it. you can tell she loves them its so precious. 50 biscuits min.!

The puppies are just cute as can be-- perfect. The mother is absolutely beautiful!- so regal.

Some dogs bite- most don't. I live with a husky mix and right from the moment I met her she has just been as sweet as can be. She does have a dominent personality- but she also loves to be petted and noticed. As a matter of fact- I fell last week and hurt my arm and every day since she has come to me and licked my harm and sort of leans against me like she is 'hugging" me. I think a lot has to do with how well an animal is treated as to how they react to humans.
