"It's not easy being a duchess!" What a cute little fluffball. The breed is so friendly and easygoing. And one owner told me that their fur is hypoallergenic. Can anyone tell me where the breed got its name, because it means "cannibal" in Russian? I've known several samoyeds, and they're all very friendly to dogs and other animals, even cats. Whatever, Luna (which means "moon" in Russian, as well as in some other languages) is a beautiful puppy and I hope you enjoy many happy years together.

My great aunt had a Samoyed in the 1940's. She raved about how wonderful the dog was until she died in 2001. Having seen this puppy, I completely understand!

It looks like that little cuties collar is two big hahaha i used to have a samoyed the are really good dogs and smart but make sure you let it know whose boss or it might have some barking problems like mine did!! She is so cute have fun and an adventurous life wit her!

For Biff (and all others) "Can anyone tell me where the breed got its name, because it means "cannibal" in Russian?" Its a fun long story, and I love to Google! especially to learn more about such adorable puppies as Luna and her breed. :) Here you go: apparently, "Samoyed" as a dog name came up b/c the various nomadic & reindeer herding peoples of Russia were/are 'Samoyedic' peoples and they were the "samoyed dogs". The word Samoyed is actually a russian corruption or mispronunciation of the real word for all those tribes in general: "Saamod" or "Saamid". if you break Samoyed down into the two russian "root" words 'samo' & 'yed' then you get "self-eater" or cannibal. Of course, these nomadic peoples dont even all speak Russian! they have their own native tongues and now even the Russian peoples call them by their different tribes, rather than "Samoyedic", but the dog name stuck!! :)

To FairyCake, "she should not be outside!", It's actually my backyard, she is living inside the house, but pictures look better with natural lighting. Thanks for your concern. Oh, a baby Samoyed! When I was young, we had 3 Samoyed puppies, and they loved to dig. Two would sleep, and one would dig, then wake up one of the others to take over. Soon, they were out of the yard and running on 3 different streets. But they were sweet and adorable dogs, and we all loved them.
