Very interesting eye color!

Try putting a towel over his cage to stop the crying at night. That's what we did with my dog when she was a puppy and it helped.

Many happy years with Owen!

Nov 27, 2007 Willows Mom
I have the Daily Puppy on my homepage, and this morning, in my sleepy state without my glasses, I thought, "Oh, there's an owl," when my half awake brain noticed Owen! This isn't an insult - I love owls! I'm a big dog person, but Owen is very very cute - a little puffball. He will never replace the companion you lost, but he will help to fill the hole left by the part of your heart that went with your other dog. I love the name - Owen. I laughed out loud when I read it... it suits him! Actually, I'm still laughing. He sounds very smart, as you said. He has even trained you to come when he calls in the night! Very clever, Owen.

Chewbacca?

Just kidding. Owen, you are an adorable mass of curls (and I'm sure the occasional bit of slobber) who no doubt will be loved to no end.

Enjoy your man and his Chewie resemblance!

Big sloppy puppy kisses Owen!

Owen is adorable! I think Shih-tzu's are naturally smart. I have a Shih-Poo named Jasper who was trained quick like Owen. I love Owen's eyes and I can almost smell that sweet puppy breath. Enjoy every moment of your little man!
Nov 27, 2007 meyekidsrgr8

What a "cutie" My heart goes out to you on the death of Foofee. Three weeks ago I had to put one of my dogs down, Smokie a 15-year old German Shepard mix, and it still hurts. Best wishes to you and your husband and your new baby "Owen"... Mojo's Dad

Absolutely A D O R A B L E !!!!!!
Nov 27, 2007 bbba80
Cute little funny face. Love those eyes. I have a shih tzu too. He's not as cute as Owen. You can always give in and let him in bed with you.
Nov 27, 2007 pomtzu
Owen is adorable. I've never seen a ShihTzu with that color fur or eyes - so unique. Most of those little guys tend to be more white or black and a little tan. My guy Sparky is white with a little tan on his back and has dark eyes - pretty ordinary looking yet very special too.
I remember reading your post when you talked of losing Foofee. I am so happy for you that you found another baby to fill that empty space - I'm sure Foofee approves. Looks like Any approves too. You have two wonderful breeds of dogs in your family.
I hope yor have many long and happy and healthy years together.
Happy Holidays to all.
Nov 27, 2007 marleysmom
What a cutie and the eyes are just a beautiful shade! Many years of love together!

Wishing you many, many happy years with your special boy, he is wonderful. Hugs and kisses and 11+++++++ bones.

Nov 27, 2007 piobaire
....And they called it, puppy love.......
Nov 27, 2007 dogsrdivine
My condolences on your recent loss. The only negative about having dogs as family is the disparity of life spans between us & the resulting loss we must move through. Owen is a heart thief, to be sure, & kudos to Andy for sharing you with him & accepting him as part of his pack, too. Many happy & healthy years to your new family unit.
Nov 27, 2007 Tracy Kemmer
Owen is so cute and I love the fact that he learned to go potty so quickly, LUCKY YOU. It has taken my Yorkie two years and finally he has figured it out.
I have a Sheltie also. Aren't they great too. I know it's sad to lose a much adored pet. We have been there and Hope that Owen continues to ease the pain.
Nov 27, 2007 GOLDENPUP
This puppy looks so much like this guy i know, his name is Reed Haniford. A very cute puppy =D.
Nov 27, 2007 Bluenoser
I love puppies that look like teddy bears. Owen is a sweetie. Reminds me of my overgrown border terrier.
Nov 27, 2007 fluffypup
Awww...soooo SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:)
Nov 27, 2007 petluver
What an adorable little puppy! Put something that has your smell on it beside him at night. And try a low playing radio. Good luck! He is going to bring you many years of joy! Lots of tummy rubs!
Nov 27, 2007 eleigh
He is very cute, and reminds me of Gizmo from the gremlins movies. :) So fuzzy! Or maybe an Ewok.
Nov 27, 2007 Catlover
I'd love to have a female Shih Tzu. I love Owen's coloring & his eyes too. He's such a cute ball of curls. My friend Gwen has one she's named Bow Bow as she recieved him from her son for Christmas last year. He is white & buff color. I find I like Owen's color much more. If only I could talk my husband into a cutie like him.
Nov 27, 2007 k_cyn
Owen you are sooo cute!!!! Your eyes are beautiful!!!!
Many kisses, hugs and bones!!!
Nov 27, 2007 Molly's Mommy
My Molly is also a Shih Tzu cross that has me quite as well trained as you are. Clever little things!
Remind Owen daily to give you lots of kisses to help with the loss of your beloved Foofee. If their actually is a cure that is it.
Nov 27, 2007 nancy814
Owen is a beautiful puppy. I love his coloring & expressions. He looks so serious. 11+ biscuits for this cutie.
Nov 27, 2007 mollysmommy
Owen must be a little picture hound. He knows how to pose. My little Shih Tzu Ginger was almost Owen's color, only she was darker. Please give owne lots of hugs, kisses, belly rubs, and snuggles for me. You have my sympathy on the loss of your 13 year old. I bet he/she is Owen's guardian angle. :) :)
Nov 27, 2007 guido's mama
Owen is a sweet fluffy pup-pup. Love him!!!!
Nov 27, 2007 DogLover625
What a furball!!!
Nov 27, 2007 loveofdawgs
Dogs can hear your heartbeat up to 15ft away (possibly more in some dogs) so maybe start over with him in his crate in your room and then move him little by little until he is where you want him to be at night.

He is just the cutest thing!
Nov 27, 2007 sylvanbliss
The best medicine for the pain of loss is a little dose of Owen!

Andy and Owen, cute dogs with snappy names, much happiness to you all!
Nov 27, 2007 Daphne's Mom
First of all my condolences to you on your loss. How wonderful that you have found another to help you. Owen is very cute! I hope you have many happy and healthy years together. Owen lots of biscuits and belly rubs! Sloppy puppy kisses from my little girl, Daphne.
Nov 27, 2007 babydollp80
What a cutie pie!!!! YES 100's of biscuits. I was amaze me that from read other comments what you learn. I could not believe that dogs hear your heartbeat 15 ft away. I three little poodle (rescue) & two sneak under the covers at night on my side. They know that Big Pappa might roll over them. And the third stay in his bed. Enjoy Enjoy Enjoy
Nov 27, 2007 pooh91158

Nov 27, 2007 Lizanne

Thank you all for your nice comments; and I too think Owen looks like an "owl", lol!
On the way home from Ellicottville, where I met the transport lady who had Owen, I kept calling him "Coco" all the way home for lack of a name. When I got him home, my husband said "How about the name "Owen"? And looking at his face, I knew that would be his name because he LOOKS like an "Owen"....and I can't help but notice that the first two letters of his name..."OW" and the fact that he looks like an "OWL", LOLOL! I think maybe Owen is his name because he looks like an Owl?
As far as Owen coming from a puppymill? I haven't the foggiest idea...I just knew that he was the one for me when I saw his photo. Foofee had come from a "back yard breeder" but I didn't know it until I went there, and they were going to destroy her because of an umbilical hernia. I wasn't about to leave her in the hands of someone who was going to kill her. I do not condone puppy mills, and if I could take every mother out of those places, I would. However, when it comes to puppies, I believe that if you end up with a certain puppy, or dog, or whatever, it is "meant to be" or it wouldn't happen. That's just my thought on it.
I love every puppy I see at "The Daily Puppy" regardless of where they came from; just as I love ever dog I see on the grown up puppies page and every dog everywhere. I am just a dog person and will always be.
Oh, and one more rather comical bit of information....when I first got my precious Owen, I put a well worn shirt I had worn for a couple of days in his playpen with him so he would have my scent....and he POOPED on it! That was just too funny!
Thank you all again for all of your sweet comments on my precious baby, and for your caring words over the loss of my precious Foofee. Owen will never replace her; that isn't possible...but he has definitely helped me with the grief of losing her, and at night when I think of her, I still cry because she isn't on my pillow...like she was for 13 years. At those times, I go out to Owen's playpen...and pick him up and just hold and rock him for awhile. He loves it, I'm sure, and it helps a lot.
Nov 27, 2007 sandrahender
Oh, and to "MOJO'S DAD"... I just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss too, and for everyone else who has ever lost a beloved pet.
Nov 27, 2007 leahkids
It is so devastating to lose your beloved dog; when I lost my golden retriever years ago, I couldn't bear to see dogs with their owners for a very long time. Enjoy your baby; to love them and have years with them is one of humans' blessings in life.:-)
Nov 27, 2007 fabsnoopy
Owen,
Welcome to the world, you little cutie pie! :)

A million biscuits for you and happy holidays to you and your new family!
Nov 27, 2007 jazzmine
why do peope always say dont get puppies from the puppy mills are they not puppies too? i dont condon puppy mills but have you stop to think what happens to those beautifull dogs that stay behind in those terrible places. i have only seen it on tv i dont think i could take it if i was to see all those been neglected i love all dogs whether they come from pupy mill, the street or the shelter the thing is to help those animals in need by the way your owenis gorgeous take good care of him and lovehimm much sorry about you lost i have lost a doggie that i had for 13yrs i know how hard it is but now you have your Owen to love he needs you now kisses to yourowen ok.

Nov 27, 2007 FLUFFKINS
hehe, Owen sort of looks like an owl. whoooo whoooo!
Nov 27, 2007 2pups1kit
Owen puts the "fur" in "furball"! ;o)
many years of love & happiness to you both!
Nov 27, 2007 tambore
Well, all the comments about Owen resembling an owl makes me reluctant to say he reminds me of a Van Gogh painting. All that glorious, beautiful red fur and those amazing eyes - yes, he's a masterpiece alright. And the shot of him with Andy reminds me of the Andy Hardy movies..... "Love finds Andy" [and it's Owen!]. Know your household is about to change dramatically and know everyone will be very happy. Best of Everything to All.
Nov 27, 2007 puppygrl23
CUTE EYES!!!!!! AWWWWWW
Nov 27, 2007 Aoife364
puppycoats, take the hate and grossness somewhere else. We're here to love these pups. I can tell just by looking at him that Owen's IQ is about 70 points higher than yours, and I'm sure he's a lot cuter, too. Owen's going to bring a lot of happiness and joy to his new family.
Nov 28, 2007 katiecrow
I think your new puppy is darling. Also, about the blanket or towel over his cage...that really does help. They feel safer, I think, in their little "den".
Nov 28, 2007 casey's mom
What a Sweetheart little Owen is!!
I agree with Owen's Mom, that "if you end up with a certain puppy, it was meant to be", regardless of where the pup originated from. The love between owner and their pet is all that should matter. And, the how's, why's and wherefore's belong solely between the pet and his owner, and is no one's business but theirs. Many wonderful years and happiness is wished for you and your little boy, Owen!

PUPPYCOATS.... I can't imagine a total stranger saying something like this about a pup...I can't imagine a human being anywhere saying something like this, which proves you're not even human..just another ignorant moron who is full of self loathing and hatred for everyone around. I feel sorry for you...anyone with that much hatred in them needs professional help and I hope you get it. Aoife364 is right...Owen's IQ IS a lot higher than yours. Yesterday, while driving down a busy street near where I live, I saw a man pulling a limp (assumingly dead) dog out of the street by its harness.

I think one of the biggest problems in this world is not breeding, but stupid owners. That poor defenseless dog obvious belonged to someone who didn't know how to keep it contained.

Owen, regardless of where he came from, is loved and well taken care of. That.......my doggy friends....is what is important.
Nov 28, 2007 Jan1025
Sandra...so sorry to hear about FooFee...I know how much she will be missed...Owen is ADORABLE!!! He is a very lucky puppy..he will have a wonderful home..
Nov 28, 2007 PIPPIN
Hello little Owen. You look scared and timid so I can understand you wanting comfort cuddles. You do have a very interesting coloured coat .... so you are a unique lttle boy, so be proud of who you are. Just enjoy all the love you receive and a big cuddles to you
Nov 28, 2007 sandrahender
Thank you Jan1025 and Pippin...Owen's coloring is very odd. I've never seen this color in a Shih-Tzu before. He came from a litter of 5...there were 3 girls and 2 boys. The other four pups were all "strawberry blonde" in color. He was the only red or chestnut; not sure what his color is called. I think of it as "Cinnamon". He is very bright; and he is very spoiled, lol. I haven't tried the towel over his little house yet...he isn't in a crate; he is in a playpen...about 6 feet long and nearly 3 feet wide. A towel wouldn't fit over it, but I have an old blanket that I will be trying tonight to see if that helps his whimpering. I'll bet it will work very well as dogs love to have their own little "den" of sorts.
Nov 28, 2007 Joe Fitz
Did you ger Owen from Marty Feldman?
Nov 28, 2007 sandrahender
Thank you too, bordercrazed. You're right; Owen is so very loved...I can't seem to stop carrying him around and rocking him and singing to him. He loves the lullabyes I sing to him; he gets very quiet and attentive whenever I do that and just stares at me with those awesome eyes.
I'm so sorry for what you had to witness; that would have upset me so bad; I can't stand to see things like that...especially when it is unecessary. Dogs should always be kept on leash or in a secure fenced yard. I hope you never see anything like that again. I would have been freaking out and would be crying for days.
Nov 28, 2007 sandrahender
Joe Fitz--No, I didn't. I've never heard of Marty Feldman. Who is he? Does he breed Shih-Tzu's? I got Owen from a lady named Diana C. in Pennsylvania. Her transport person met me halfway in Ellicottville.
Nov 28, 2007 caramel
Marty Feldman is a comedian with big hair.
to puppycoat you take love where you find it, with your attitude you'll never get any.
Nov 28, 2007 Pinkphoenixx
its amazing that such an innocent and sweet puppy fires up so much negative emotion. with one of the people here its obvious the issue runs deep. also i wish that these puppies werent graded because it just doesnt make sense. they are all sweet in thier individual ways. i agree about the puppy mills and i wish they were all closed, but in the meantime the little puppies that were born are already here and should be loved. in the meantime, much joy to you and your lovely little dog...
Nov 28, 2007 devgurl00
He's precious, there's nothing better than a Shih Tzu. I have 2!
Nov 28, 2007 LisaLisa
First of all, let me give you my condelences on the loss of your Foofie. I lost both my Shih Tzus and it was the hardest thing I have ever been through. The fact that you've found Owen and are able to give him love and enjoy him makes things so much easier. I've never seen a Shih Tzu with such light eyes - he's precious and I'm sure he has that truly lovable Shih Tzu temperment. Your Sheltie looks gorgeous too (that's actually my favorite breed of dog). Best of luck to you - enjoy Owen and the Sheltie. Many, many biscuits!
Nov 28, 2007 mqm501
I'm sorry for your loss. Alas it is the price we pay for loving these delightful creatures. I'm sure Owen (what a great name!) will keep you busy and comforted. My lot certainly gather round me if they sense I'm a bit down. I can't understand the lack of biscuits and can only put it down to a fault with the counter - certainly when I clicked 11 it only seem to add 7! Do we really need the biscuit counter anyway? Surely every pup deserves the max!
Sad to read that the negative commentor appeared though by the time I logged on they had been removed.
All the very best with Owen and I hope to see him all grown up in the future.
Nov 28, 2007 cowgyrls21
A way to keep Owen from crying at night because it sound like he is lonely is to put him in a room with a tv running with cartoons or something or even a clock that ticks. That usually works for young puppies.
Nov 28, 2007 MisterFuzzyPants
Sorry for you loss. He looks like the cutest combination of an Ewok and Alph. Thirteen biscuits to you!!!1
Nov 28, 2007 Blazes mamma
Come On People! Where's the biscuits? Every puppy deserves 11+ bikkies!! He is adorable! Nothing like a new baby to mend a broken heart. May he bring you as many years of happiness as your beloved Foofee. I have had to leave my baby Blaze at my Mums house - were he gets spoilt to no end, as my new home just dosent have the room, and I miss him to no end. Good Luck to you all!
Nov 29, 2007 BTLabs
I am so glad you have found another pupper to help heal your heart. It's easy see that this boy is loved! Congrats from a fellow Western New Yorker!

What an adorable face!!! TOO CUTE!!!
Dec 1, 2007 dperez
owen is absolutely adorable!
i agree that we shouldn't be giving ratings to all these sweet furbabies--they're all 11+.
i've lost a dog too and it's unbelievably sad. it touched me when you said you miss your previous dog being on your pillow--my dog sleeps right next to my head on my pillow every night.
enjoy owen--he sounds like he's got a great spitfire personality too--for many many healthy years!
Dec 1, 2007 amc
Dear Owen,

You were robbed of biscuits. Please don't take this to heart - you are absolutely adorable.
Love, Dr. Poodz and fellow fans
Dec 1, 2007 txmadre
Owen is saying, "Are you listening to me? Pay attention! There are dog biscuits in the kitchen!"

Andy is going to have his paws full with Owen and you are blessed to have both of them! I'm sure Foofee is in Doggie Heaven and approves of your new little friend.
Dec 5, 2007 mash18020
This pic is just to precious! And I'm sorry...but Owen looks like he stepped right out of a Star Wars movie.....such a cute little ewok!!! I hope you and your friend have long, healthy and fun lives...and a million doggie treats to you both!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

I know there are ALOT of heartless people that make stupid comments on the Daily Puppy....and I missed what this Puppycoats said and I can't find it.....was it removed?? What the heck was said? It doesn't matter where a puppy or dog came from.....they ALL deserve a chance at life and a loving home!
