May 4, 2007 GoldenLove12
Shes adorable! Look at those eyes! She looks like she just wants to be happy and make you happy, and I'm sure she will! Don't fall for those eyes too often though ;) Okay do, a little spoiling never hurt anyone!

Biscuits galore!
May 4, 2007 grace2you
What a striking face...she's is just LOVE-ly. I adore her mask!
May 4, 2007 zet210
That's no Chihuahua. She looks like a terrier/shar pei mix. She's way too big to be a Chi. She's super cute though! I love her eyes!
May 4, 2007 allgodscritters
Venus is completely adorable - love her eyes! She reminds me of one of my little guys, who is also a rescue; his Dad passed away at Christmas of 2003 and he had been picked up by Animal Control :(
His legs are not as long as Venus's and his coat is solid (golden). From the bits of information I have been able to gather, he is a terrier mix with a lot of JRT. I would say that Venus is mostly JRT with a little something else. She is a precious love-bug and I hope you have many, many wonderful years together.
May 4, 2007 caraschotch
There isn't a drop of Chi in this sweetheart, unless I miss my guess. She is definitely Jack Russell with maybe Shar Pei or Lab mixed in. She has many breed marks for Russells (I own two) and looks very sweet and friendly. I hope you have a wonderful life with her!
May 4, 2007 kaysuiko
Aww, she's adorable! And she's definatly not all Chihuahua, hehe. I'd say some Jack Russel and maybe something else? Her muzzle is pretty broad... But adorable coloring! She looks like she'll end up being bigger than you think! :)
May 4, 2007 katiesh
My girl Grace looks like a larger black HER!
Grace is up to 43 pounbs, maybe your cutie patootie will get that big! Adorable!
May 4, 2007 mom-lainie
ya i agree--no chi in her. but i just love her ear markings. you have one unique looking pup. by the way, its just great you got her from a shelter! Shelter dogs are the greatest! They seem to know you saved them.
May 4, 2007 Karen313
She is just gorgeous! Love her markings :)
May 4, 2007 ais4ali
being a veterinary nurse for 5 years, i usually have no problem defining a mutt, but this little cutie has me stumped!! definitely some JRT, and maybe some australian shepherd or border collie because of the light brown and brown and white.... and looks like a little terrier, poss pit bull terrier somewhere.... anyways.... my favorite puppy so far!!! yay for mutts! :)
May 4, 2007 mdecastro
Those eyes look so sad, but I am sure you are making each other very happy. Shelter pups need more love for sure! And who cares what breed she is-- breeding should be obsolete!
May 4, 2007 EdeN
Oh I love her so much. I want one too!!
All the best to you and your lovey girl xxx
May 4, 2007 UnderHisWings
Absolutly beautiful! Be sure to post pictures of her all grown up, she's sure to be a beauty! Enjoy
May 4, 2007 rijbakluva
wow - nice dog! i agree with everyone - she definately has no Chihuahua in her! i reckon 80% JRT and 20% APBT. she has a very handsome face!
May 4, 2007 llt214
Whatever she is....she's a beauty!!! So cute. Enjoy her!
May 4, 2007 Dodie
What a pretty baby! I think Venus has some Besenji in her.
May 4, 2007 Trevor's mom
I'm personally seeing a bit of basenji. Her legs are too long to be Jack Russell, and I surely don't see any chi. She is a sweetie nonetheless. Sometimes definitions aren't necessary!!
May 4, 2007 elusivek
look at that sweetie! how cute :)
May 4, 2007 mperlet
That last picture is just too cute for words!
May 4, 2007 Boo's Mom
Breed doesn't matter"Venus is her name".......and she is a real doll.
Shelter pups can be the smartest most loyal of them all...my Boo is a shelter pup....and I wouldn't change him for the world!!!
Wishing you many, many years of happiness together!! :)
May 4, 2007 Terry C
Beagle/Jack Russell mix.

Cute as a button.
May 4, 2007 DogMom
I must agree -- it matters not what breed she is --- SHE is absolutely adorable!!!!! Good Lord, those expressions -- she looks like she is going to be one fun doggie! Kisses to the Goddess of Love!
May 4, 2007 eslapin
I see Jack Russell with maybe Sha pei, or Pittie, or Basenji. She definately has a boxier head, and wrinkley forhead. She's 100% cutie-pie, YAY for shelter mutts!
May 4, 2007 eslapin
She is definately Jack Russell, with maybe some Shar Pei, or Pittie, or Basenji. She has a boxier head, and a wrinkely forhead. She's 100% cutie-pie, YAY for shelter mutts!
May 4, 2007 Sashasmommy
Her legs ARE long... and I love the pink paw pads... what a beautiful girl!
May 4, 2007 Maywee
She is the best breed of all "Who Knows" breed...she is absolutely beautiful!!! I wouldn't trade my "Who Knows" guy for any other!
May 4, 2007 peanutsmom
she looks like a jack russel with some shar pei in her - doesn't matter she is a beautiful dog - i love her mask. she is a keeper.
May 4, 2007 Jax
ADORABLE! Maybe chihuahua and pug? Whatever, she is a cutie pie!
May 4, 2007 sue
shes got beautiful eyes looks a lot like my nephews jack russel, but with longer legs
May 4, 2007 Bobbie
Whatever she is, she is gonna grow into an even more beautiful big girl! I especially love the picture of her looking off into the distance and her ears are just flopped over at the tips. Very adorable and I also would find it hard to wait to see the final results. But enjoy her puppyhood, as like human children, she will grow up all too fast!
May 4, 2007 GeniaNC
Venus is a cutie pie. I love her little wrinkled forehead in some of the shots. She looks to be part angel, part prankster and part joy. Big sloppy kisses to her!
May 4, 2007 stellasmom
Oh my goodness...she has the cutest little "serious" face!
May 4, 2007 bulldogmom
I want to nibble on those wittle pink toesies... i can smell the puppy breath
May 4, 2007 gem1945
She looks like a keeper to me!!!! She's just precious. It matters not what's in her background, as long as you and she are happy and enjoying life!!! Best of luck with your new family member. And thanks for taking a shelter dog home!!
May 4, 2007 cindi_g
As a dog trainer, my guess would be JRT and Pit Bull. The coloring is JRT, but the forehead and ears are very Pit. Either way, she's adorable! Thanks for saving a shelter dog. Be sure you take her to a reputable, positive-based trainer! Makes all the difference in the world when your dog is happy and well-mannered.
May 4, 2007 bunnied816
She is a beautiful, purebred 100% Mutt - the best breed there is!! I don't know what her gene pool is - but they got the mix just right! I've never seen a dog exactly like her; you have a unique little girl there. Absolutely adorable, and you can see she's brimming with personality and intelligence! You were well rewarded for your trip to the shelter - talk about Instant Karma! Congratulations on your little Goddess!
May 4, 2007 chickpea26
I love that last picture...looks like your puppy is posing for the camera.
May 4, 2007 Furzaflyin
Gorgeous puppy!!! 11 biscuits if I ever saw one. Jack Russell definitely - what else, hmmmm. She is just lovely.
May 4, 2007 sams*mom
The fun will be seeing which traits come out. You might be able to pinpoint dominant characteristics in that mix but don't count on it. I have a JR/Corgi mix and he definitely tends toward the terrier side but also has a sweet Corgi side too. Venus has looong legs! I agree she looks like JR/Shar Pei/a little bit of bull terrier but who knows? Like Sam, she's 100% unique. What a sweetie!
May 4, 2007 pauleenm
Not sure what mix she is, but she's so cute. Shelter dogs are the best!
May 4, 2007 FRITZY
That is a beautiful storey. The questions is - who is luckier? You or Venus? It sounds like love is in the air and I am happy for you both! Venus is very cute!!!
May 4, 2007 stefdeck
Hi, had to put my two cents in. I have a jack russell chihuahua mix that I adopted from a local shelter. They look very much alike so thats my guess. Mine is all blonde however, and he is not the sharpest tool in the shed..........but I love him anyway..........
May 4, 2007 emericangirl
If I had to guess I'd say that's no chihuahua mixture at all. I see the Jack Russell or Parsons Terrier in the coloring and body, but the shape of that head looks very bullish. Staffordshire Bull I think is the name of the smaller pit-bull looking dog. Anyone agree?
May 4, 2007 fruitlesspuppy
Hello,
Very cute pup... I think sharpea.. spelling may be wrong but..
I have a jrt/poodle female and a male mix chihuahua and daddy who knows.. I love them both.
Everyday I take them for a run/ride on my very bright yellow moped. They love it and we are the talk of my very small texas town.

Pup
May 4, 2007 busyness
I too adopted a rescue dog and I was told it was a Chihuahua/Daschund mix. Well, almost immediately people--including our vet--were saying that he looked to be a Jack Russell Terrier mix. As he's grown (he's 10 months old now), and I've familiarized myself with the breed, I agree that he's JRT/something, without any Chihuahua to be found. Although I can see hints of JRT with Venus, there's something about her markings and her size which make me think (short-haired version of a) Husky, or something similar. Whatever she is, I can see why she's brought you so much joy. Congratulations on rescuing this precious girl.
May 4, 2007 krisstal
I normally can't stand small dogs, but this one is cute!
May 4, 2007 littlemeshe
Beautiful dog. I agree with many that there is Jack Russel in her. She also resembles my pit bull. She has the same snout and block head. A good way to tell if she is part pit since her head structure looks pit she should have two golf ball sized muscles one on each side of the inside of her mout at the back. Pits are the only breed with the golf ball sized muscles in the back of their mouth. It's those muscles that provide the bite strength that they have. You can't miss them if you open her mouth and take a look.
May 4, 2007 speersen
If I had to guess I would say she is part Sharpei, picture number 8 with the wrinkly forhead and the soft fur is a pretty good sign.
May 4, 2007 txmadre
I don't have a clue what her breed might be, but she is a beauty. love her "mask"!
May 4, 2007 dogsrule
How much do I love your dog.
Let me count the ways.

Brilliant eyes, cute little body, definitely taking your word on the softest fur, ears, face, colors, size, and that you rescued this good little soul from a shelter.
Enjoy her. She's a gem. :)
May 4, 2007 bopeep
Venus, I agree with previous comments - it doesn't matter what breed you are. You are a very gorgeous puppy with unusual markings. Just be happy. Hugs and kisses.
May 4, 2007 kristen.g06
It looks to be a JRT X with a pitbull (the wrinkles on the face give that away) or a shar pai.
May 4, 2007 mcneca
She looks like she might be part Chow...she's got the ears. But her markings look very much like a Jack Russell. Either way, she is absolutely adorable!
May 4, 2007 jujubeanhead
yeah - definitely not a chihuahua. cute though.
May 4, 2007 kathy behrens
Wow, Venus looks alot like our new puppy Bindi. We got her from a pet store (yes I know...but we couldn't wait any longer, so I feel like we rescued her from the hot glass boxes!) The pet store papers showed her as a Chi-JRT mix, however the vet said there's no chi in her, so they logged her in as a JRT mix. The resemblence is remarkable, same markings on ear & white coat. Bindi is almost 5 months now & is at 9.3lbs. We got her when she was 2 months & 2/12 lbs. I'll post her picture at about 3 &1/2 months & 5lbs. I have to agree Venus looks like a JRT/Sharpei mix. Very cute!
May 4, 2007 beth
What a perfect name is Venus for such a pretty dog! She looks very, very much like my daughter's pitbull mix, who is an absolute sweetheart.

:o)
May 4, 2007 sandrahender
She is a beautiful little puppy...whatever she is. I think she definitely has either Sharpei or Pitt mixed in her because of the wrinkles...but she also has the muzzle of a Brittany...which is one of the babies I have. My brittany has very long legs too and is very tall and weighed about the same at Venus's age. Whatever she is, she is gorgeous. Give her tons of kisses and hugs for me! I gave her 11 biscuits!
May 4, 2007 ambsimmo
My guess is Jack Russel/Beagle mix!! But whatever she is, she's a cutie!!!
May 4, 2007 CBinID
She is obviously the breed Pure Doggie Sweetness.

Very precious. You have a great eye for pups!

Cathy
May 4, 2007 2LabbieGirls
Wow..she is adorable!!! I see some Jack Russell, maybe Shar Pei or Basenji. That face is just TOO cute!! :)
May 4, 2007 lovemydogs
She is ADORABLE!! She reminds me of a puppy we adoped from animal control about 4 years ago, we named her LoLa. Same beautiful markings and coloring. LoLa was mixed with Bassett and something else. Unfortunately she had advanced stages of Distemper and had to be put to sleep. ANYWAY, (snif, snif) Your baby looks like she is mixed with Sharpei and Terrier. She is such a beauty!!! 12 biscuits!!!!!!!
May 4, 2007 Langtry
Her long legs remind me of an Akita's, lol. Venus is so beautiful, whatever she's made of!
May 4, 2007 kathy
Aw, she is so adorable. She does look like a terrier/shar pei mix. But whatever she is, she is a very cute mix. She looks like a bundle of fun and very lovable. You are lucky to have her and she is lucky you rescued her.
May 4, 2007 meeshabeth
No chi in there, nope. I agree that she looks like a terrier/shar pei. 100% love!!! :) Have fun with her! Lots of doggy smooches for Venus!
May 4, 2007 muffin
she must be half terrier (and half deity), they are notoriously intelligent, and in my opinion she is far more beautiful than a chihuahua. the best part is the unique color of her nose.
May 4, 2007 zzorg
Eh, definitely ni Chihuahua in there! Looks like some Jack Russell and a.n.other terrier - I'd put a large amount of money on Shar Pei - but as for cute!!! You are so lucky, *love* that doggie ;-)
May 4, 2007 Luv-em_All
WOW...What a gorgeous dog!!! Her markings as shown in pic 5 are amazing. Her wrinkles in pic 8 are irresistibly charming. The last picture, pic 12, is ready for the cover of a book or magazine, or better yet a poster. I hope you don't mind if I save that picture.
Have fun filled life with Venus!
May 4, 2007 Dan76
What a sweet face he has! I love it!
May 4, 2007 yoliesf
She's beautiful!
May 4, 2007 Toreysfavorite
With those long legs, I'd say she has more smooth fox terrier than JRT. The only difference between her and my smooth fox is the length of her nose. (My dog's is LOOOONG!) She's darling!
May 4, 2007 SherryK
Nope.. no Cha-Huie in this cute little one... you really got the golden ring when you found her !!
May 4, 2007 karbels
Terrier x Shar Pei. :)

I have a Shar Pei mix - except he's about 8x her size - Daddy was either Mastiff or Rhodesian Ridgeback. The slight bulging nose and the set of the ears look all Shar Pei to me. The expression on her face in pic #8, is so much like my 96lb guy.

Whatever she is, she is a doll. The soft coat is not a Shar Pei thing - But mine doesn't have the typical SP coat either. He has a smooth coat with this downy, fine, float everywhere undercoat and on it's on his chest also which feels like cashmere.

Aw well - always fun to guess but the real joy is what she brings to you. She looks very smart and happy. Maybe too smart. :)
May 4, 2007 liz
She's adorable alright! Looks like pit mix to me. I love her.
May 4, 2007 Judi
She is so beautiful. I love her ears, all perked up. God bless you for rescuing her from the shelter. I give her lots of bones & you, lots of admiration!
May 4, 2007 scobig
Venus is beautiful! Bless you for rescuing a homeless animal! I dont know what mix Venus is, but I definately do not see any Chihuahua! I know my Chi's, I dont see anything that even resembles Chi. She is breathtaking though, no matter what mix she is!
May 4, 2007 x-lab_lover-x
awww ant she got long legs bless her XxX
May 4, 2007 Chloe's Mom
Cute, cute, cute. Rescue dogs are the best.
May 4, 2007 stefdeck
I don't know guys, she looks alot like my jack rusellhuahua............
May 4, 2007 gandydancer
she is gorgeous! looks like a terrier/shar mix, as so many have said before me--what color is her tongue? at any rate, she is a doll, eleven biscuits from me!
May 4, 2007 twosweethounds
Wow! She's got Movie Star written all over.
Whoever took those photos sure know what they're doing!
May 4, 2007 sylvanbliss
Oh-my-goodness! Venus has the most outrageous markings! I make pottery so, I think she looks like she was dipped in white glaze. God's fingers covered each side of her head, 'cept the sides of her ears! (and where the glaze slipped on her hip) Outstanding!

My dogs Astro and Luna think Venus is out of this world!
May 4, 2007 poochielou
Oh my, what a sweetie! I couldn't help letting out a big awwwwww. Who cares what breed she is? When people ask you what kind of dog she is, you just tell them she's a good dog!
May 4, 2007 Nehmat Markos
Venus is sooo cute that i would take her right now, and not even caring for what breed she is!!! she's got a really beautiful coat and lovely eyes! enjoy ur time with her...
May 4, 2007 sterling
I know what she is-I have one. She is a JackRat. Jack Russell-Rat Terrier. I hope you enjoy her as much as I do mine. He is the light of my life.
May 4, 2007 Pooky
VENUS~ you are special. You are indeed beautiful. I see a lot of Jack Russell in you... and your daddy? well, I'd say traveling saleman. I've had chihuahuas, and I do not see any chi in her. You will grow up to be like a Hawaiian beauty... mixed but so beautiful.
May 4, 2007 saturninegirl
this is a cute puppy! i think she is a cross between a jack russell terrier and a basenji. basenjis have a wrinkled forhead and a curly tail and don't bark. we had a basenji mix and we had to teach her to bark!!! anyway, venus is adorable.
May 4, 2007 hokku241
What a little beauty! I agree that there might be some basenji going on, it even looks like shar pei between the eye brows and the ears, but not in the body.

Some jack russell, and those markings at the widow's peak make me think beagle or shepherd, but again, the body is more terrier/jack russell.

Then, her nose leather looks like a red-nosed pit bull, and I mean that as a compliment. I wonder as does the person upthread, if there is any blue or black on her tongue.

And the coat! I can see how silky it is from the photo!

What a lovely baby and a stellar advertisement for rescue pups! Thanks so much for sending in the photos!
May 4, 2007 littlet
I appreciate all the input on what she might be... love the "good dog" response!
Her tounge is pink...
May 5, 2007 DogyLvr
Looks just like our EIGHT Beagle/JRT pups from two liters! Their coats are much softer than either parents. She is a beauty!
May 5, 2007 testsub
MUTTZ rule! Love alley dogs. Just like alley cats they are the best.
May 5, 2007 LisaRKR
OMG is she adorable!!! She looks like she might have either some Pit or Sharpei in her......just my thought. Nonetheless, she is so cute, I would love to just squeeze her!!!!!
May 5, 2007 PuppyLuuver
love the ears!
May 5, 2007 lonjac
AWWWWWWWW....!!! What a cutie!!!
May 5, 2007 rkincaide
she is so precious but i don't think she has chihuahua in her. Just love on her.....
May 6, 2007 rdimonte
She's adorable. I love the pictures of her with the ball in her mouth & also with the stick in her mouth. She just has the cutest face. She also looks like she is going to be a big dog. Lots of luck.
May 7, 2007 Krokneze
Lovly! What an adorable face! But definitly no Chi in her...I would say Jack Russell and some Shar Pei. But I may be way off there;D
May 8, 2007 tambore
Wow, Venus, everyone is going crazy trying to figure out your lineage. Good for you! Having three Chis myself, I honestly don't think you have any in your blood line. However, DEFINITELY Jack Russell with those long legs and floppy ears. I see pit bull, husky (a little) and you! Those white/brown ears of yours are truly spectacular and that little drizzle of forehead marshmallow are tooooooo much to bear. Happy life to all.
May 9, 2007 passionforPUPS
DEFINITLEY has Shar Pei in her and maybe some JRT!! SHe is adorably amazing and makes me want a dog even more so! When I graduate college and live off campus, I am getting one! and defintiely from the shelter/pound!! what a cutie! you are so lucky!
May 9, 2007 soshyviolet
well i think she looks like a pitbull/jack russel mix... but who cares what breed she is --- SHE'S FREAKING ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 12, 2007 pessimisaurus
omg she is absolutley adorable!! she is going to be so gorgeous! see looks possibly jack russell, pit bull, and the muzzle shape + ear position look very shar pei. regardless, she is one CUTE dog!!!!
May 16, 2007 moonshine74
I think she is very adorable...... also I have 2 Pit Bulls and 1 Jack Russell Terrier, and she looks just like my little baby, with a little pit in her, I see both those breeds in her. She reminds me of my Petey Pooh, in her pictures, I have pic's of him just like hers.
May 18, 2007 literarycritic
That face screams "Aussie!" to me. I have a 7-month-old Aussie/Boxer mix, and his face looks an awful like your puppy's -- all Aussie (flop-over ears, wrinkly forehead when puzzled, bright eyes, and the muzzle is incredibly distinctive).

When mine was small, everyone (including me) thought for sure he was a terrier mix. Then he passed the 40-pound mark. Turns out that the Boxer is a not-so-distant ancestor of the pit bull, and pit bulls are -- guess what? -- terriers.
May 18, 2007 literarycritic
Argh. I decided to check my facts. I thought something was off while I was typing it! The correct version:

The Pit Bull Terrier and the Boxer are not-so-distant cousins. Their common ancestor is the English Bulldog. The point is, there are terrier-ish qualities bred into the Boxer breed.
Jul 20, 2007 pupaholic
lovely puppy.
Sep 20, 2007 coco puff
and maybe pit bull mixed?
Jan 30, 2008 puppypac
This is one beautiful pup! What expressive eyes and a beautifully marked coat. Not too sure about the chi, tho..........Doesn't matter - she's just wonderful. Very very pretty.
Feb 16, 2008 BRUINGAL67
She is beautiful. I would be very interested to see what she looks like now. We recently adopted a puppy who is a mix that the vet believes is shar pei (blue tongue and mouth) and lab (or weimaraner) with possible jack russell terrier. He looks alot like your puppy.
Jul 22, 2008 lovemypom
Venus is beautiful...but I don't see any Chihuahua in her. Looks like she might have some terrier in her though.
Nov 25, 2008 Dachshund lover
i'm guessing a chihuahua, jackruddel, and maybe a little pittbull in her too?but she sure is cute!
Jul 16, 2009 cotiko89
