Ohhhhhhh, I am filled with such bittersweet feelings right now. Such sweetness, of course, fills my heart with gladness, but I get very sad looking at bichons...

I wanted a dog for as long as I can remember. When I finally got one, I was so happy that I cried. She was a little bichon puppy, and we named her "Jill", because "Jillian" means "sweetheart". I cared for her like she was a baby human--rocking her to sleep in my arms, waking up with her when she cried at night, and we were constant companions. She loved our whole family, but she was definitely my baby.

In high school, I had some pretty tough times. I underwent intensive treatment for an eating disorder, and things were pretty bleak for me. I remember distincty a night when I was laying in bed next to her, and realizing that I had to get better for her. Using her as my motivation, and putting my health as a top priority, I was able to pull myself together. She saved me from wasting my life.

At age 12, she started to have some serious medical problems. Finally, after spending several nights in an emergency veterinary facility, she was diagnosed with lupus. We did everything we could, but when it became clear that she was suffering unduly, we made the decision to put her to sleep. My family let me make the call, and it was the hardest thing I have ever had to do, but I knew it was the right choice.

That was 5 years ago, but I know it will always hurt. Losing pets is never easy, but my relationship with her was one of those rare, extra-special ones that change you as a person. To this day, I get tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat when I see dogs that look like my Jill.

I am so happy that you have brought this dog into your life. I am positive that he will love you more than you can imagine. I am deeply sorry for your recent loss. I know that this boy will not replace your lost love, but he will bring you untold joy.

Welcome to your little man. He's so adoreable. I, too, suffered the lost of a beloved pet. He was a Peek-a-poo. His name was Kipper. I loved him like he was a child. The loss hurts to this day and it has been 6 years. Have not replaced him. Would love you, but I don't think my heart can stand it. Instead, I enjoy all the adorable babies on The Daily Puppy. Enjoy your little man and give him a belly rub from me. He most certainly gets 11 bones!!
Dec 2, 2006 #1DogLover

Message to UGH!!!!

UGH is what I say about your message. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything. This pup may not be your type but there is no need to be rude. Send in a picture of your "puppy."

Dec 2, 2006 PGPUP
HOW CUTE! OMG! I know about the hole in your heart. I had a beautiful golden retriever that just never came home...it was horrible. My other dog was just about to grieve herself to death until we got a new bundle of fluff and fur...a golden puppy. She has helped to mend my hole in my heart as well as my other dog. They play NON STOP!

I know how they can heal your hurts. Enjoy each day with your dog.

>>>EWWWW!!!!!!THAT IS A HORRIBLE MUTT!!!!!!!!!
~ by Ugh<<<

The phrase "horrible mutt" is an oxymoron, besides the fact that Waiskai is a purebred.

Anyway, Waiskai, you are so floofy! and huggable! and snugglable! and so fuzzy and fluffy and just plain adorable!
Dec 2, 2006 #1DogLover
I LOVE you Waiskai!! You are sooooo cute and fluffy!!! I just want to burry my face in your fur!!!

A great story with a happy ending. Sorry for your loss, just remember we don't do it "to" them, we do it "for" them.
Dec 2, 2006 Lisa
Your story about Merlin made me cry! It has been about 3 years since we had to put my 12 year old powder-puff chinese crested to sleep (and before anyone tries saying anything, we rescued her at 6 years old) and thinking about her still makes me cry.

Anyways, back to the puppy. Sounds like it was a match made in heaven, and its great to hear he went to such a loving home. Those sleeping pictures are the best, and I love his expressive eyes!

To BeagleMom--

No, I don't have a blog of my own. The only place I comment pretty much daily is here. I am sorry for commandeering this one with a lengthier than normal post. I am just unable to see bichons without a powerful mix of feelings.

Am I to understand from your moniker that you play mommy to a beagle (or more than one)? If so, please flap their ears for me and tickle their tummies. I love beagles and all things beagley.
Dec 2, 2006 Lynn
I have had 3 Bichon's and each and every one of them meant the world to me. Lilly is my current Bichon Frise and is one of the smartest dogs I have ever had. Enjoy Waiskai, Bichon's are dogs full of love and ask only to have you return that love. 11 buiscuits and more if I could.
Dec 2, 2006 Evelyn
This little fellow is a "13" or maybe even off the chart!

Cutest thing EVER. Easy eleven biscuits!
Dec 2, 2006 Audie
What an adorable white cotton ball!!! I am sure this new baby of yours will lighten your heart. Unfortunately, i have experienced putting a dog down (haven't we all?) and the pain is beyond belief. They are as much a family member as anyone else...sometimes more ;) The good news, the pain does decrease and go away. You'll never forget your family member, but the intense pain lessens. And, eventually the new baby does wittle into your heart and soon you wonder how you evr could have lived without the new family member!! Congrats on Waiskai!! He will definitely bring your life joy beyond measure.
Dec 2, 2006 Laura
What an adorable baby!! He seems so sweet.
Dec 2, 2006 Jennifer
That is the sweetest sad story. I'm glad Waiskai is in your life now. 11!
Dec 2, 2006 Terry C, Boston Terrier Lover
An old noble breed from Spain.

Many seen in Goya paintings.

I think they look like adorable little stuffed animals. They are gorgeous dogs with personality plus.

Waiskai is adorable.
Dec 2, 2006 Terry C, Boston Terrier Lover
Julia:

I like your stories,

I had to put my 15 year old Boston down in January 2005. I was despondent for weeks,

I have another Boston who just turned 2 and I love him to pieces, too.
Dec 2, 2006 Azure
What an adorable dog! I love the look on his face in the 4th picture. It's the "they love me and I can get away with anything I want" look.
Dec 2, 2006 jess_hanson
What a cute pup! A little fluffy ball of puppy goodness! And to all of you out there, if you would learn to ignore the rude comments, the wouldn't have any reason to post them anymore. It is like a screaming two year old. If you ignore them they stop.
Dec 2, 2006 Murphy-s Mom
How adorable. I know about the hole in the heart. We had 2 Bichons for a total of 16 years and had to put our last one down at age 15 last Christmas morning. It was so awful to have an empty house. We have recently added a new puppy to our house but a different breed because I didn't think I could look at those beautiful eyes and fluffy white fur at this time. Bichons will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. Give your little guy a hug from me. He is SO cute!
Dec 2, 2006 john marryman

Dec 2, 2006 renee
Waiskai you are as beautiful as your name. I think you are a bundle of fluffy joy for your mom and everyone to enjoy. I'm quite sure that when you go out to play and travel with your family you touch the heart of everyone you meet. I would love to pet you and give you hugs and kisses. I am very sorry for your parents loss. I know what it's like to lose something so dear to you that you can't get over it. But it's moments like this that get you through.
Happy Birthday Julia!!!! I didn't think you would be on here today. See everybody loves hearing your comments. I cried when I read your first one. I hope you are doing better now. Daily Puppy readers need you so stay healthy.

Such a cute fluff muffin! Such a touching story...I know how dogs mean so much to us! It's so hard to lose one you love, but it sounds like your new little guy helps heal the pain a little bit.

Renee and "1st-time poster", thanks for the birthday wishes!! :) I am very healthy and happy now, and I had a great birthday. I had dinner at my sister's boyfriend's house (his family is close with my family) because one of their dogs has the same birthday as I do. We had an extra-special steak dinner and we each had a birthday cake, although her's was just a couple of cheese cubes with unlit candles stuck into them. :) I had a doggy-nose-filled birthday. Fantastic! :)

i know how it feels losing a pet. i breaks my heart everytime i hear and read stories like this. but needless to say, it gives me the feeling that i am not alone in this world grieving for a pet. surely, no one can replace a friend like her, but the memories will always be there. im so happy now that i bought a new puppy. and i take care of her every now and then. hi to my snoopy and charcoal ;-)
Dec 3, 2006 Marie
Waiskai you look so adorable. Especially the pictures where you are sleeping. You look like such a cuddly puppy. I would love to hold you.

Julia my heart went out to you reading your first comment. Also about Merlin. I had to put my Amber down in September and it doesn't matter how long it has been, it kind of hurts thinking of them. But yet, there are good memories also. I have had to put down quite a few babies in my life time and it sure doesn't get any easier but everyone of them has a special place in my heart.
Dec 3, 2006 Janet - Waiskai-s mommy
Thanks everyone for such nice comments. Waiskai says he sends lots of kisses to those of you in need of puppy lovin'! Have a wonderful Holiday Season!

Dec 4, 2006 Corgimom
How wonderful to be blessed with friends who care for you, and buy you another puppy to love. It does not matter if your pet is a pure breed, or from an adoption shelter...they all give unconditional love. Waiskai is a very special little puppy. My 3 Corgis send him lots of kisses.
Dec 4, 2006 chinese_israelite
so beautiful... love the last picture. so innocently sweet :)
Dec 4, 2006 Bunnied816
How wonderful!! Great, heartwarming dog story. And aren't Bichon's fabulous? My mother worked as a geriatric nurse until her retirement, the last few years caring for people in their homes. One lady finally needed to go into assisted living - so we adopted her 15 year old Bichon, Charlee. Despite her advanced years (almost 17 now), Charlee is quite frisky, devoted to my mother, and is just discovering the fun of chasing cats. (Our miniature poodle is handling her training.) These little dogs have personality+!!

That picture of him on your husband's head!! Priceless! Who needs a toupee?? LOL!!!
Dec 4, 2006 Lindsay
So cute i love Bichon puppiesi have a Bichon and she is so frisky she is 8 now but still very energic. Rosie had to be put asleep last year but so was very calm the exact opposite of Lady. I absolutely LOVE the pictures, he is so cute. Dogs truely leave pawprints on our hearts and they NEVER go away!

Waiskai, you are so cute and your owners are blessed. I fell in love with Bichons when one took the Westminster show a couple of years ago. He was a champ and knew it. Little ball of fluff.

Julia, your story is very touching andi am glad you shared it. It brought a tear to my eye, I too had to make the call to put down a pet and it was the hardest things ever. It still bothers me. I havent owned a pet since. I've been thinking about getting another dog. Soon. Maybe soon.
Dec 6, 2006 Janet - Waiskai-s mommy
Julia - I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you personally for your story. It truly blessed me to know that Waiskai made someone smile. That's his best "trick"! I learned a long time ago, when you lose a "kid" the new one will never replace him or her, but they will make new and special memories in your heart if you just remember that each one is an individual and has their own personality and love to give. I suffer every day from CEBV (chronic Epstein Barr Virus). I cannot tell you how much comfort little Waiskai brings to me each day. I wrote a book called Dreams to Dust, and Waiskai is a part of the book in how he is such thearapy to me. Everyone who has a Bichon, may want to check out my website at http://www.TheBichon Boutiqu... You will find my book there as well as everything you can think of with a Bichon on it! :) Thanks again for such a touching story Julia - and a happy belated birthday to you.

What a sweet boy! I am so sorry for your loss. After losing my first poodle, Rubie I cried for 2 weeks. Over 2 years later I still have missing Rubie moments. I ended up rescuing 2 mini sisters, Bella and Free Bea and a mutt named Maxi. Then came little Charlie the Havanese , and finally Lucki the Spoo. We are now a complete large, noisy family. It all started because of a beloved apricot poodle named Rubie. They comfort our souls. Peace be with you and yours. Kelly
