How Much Do Puppy Bichons Eat?

Bichon Frise dogs are small and fluffy, often termed "clowny" due to their jovial nature. The breed developed in the Mediterranean from the Water Spaniel. Proper care of your Bichon puppy establishes a lifetime of good health and many years with your friend.

Newly Weaned Puppy

Weaned Bichon puppies must be fed four times daily, every four to five hours. One cup of food is fed in a 24-hour period. Divide each feeding into 1/4 cup servings.

Ten Weeks of Age & Beyond

At ten weeks, the puppy may be ready to cut back to three feedings per day. At six months of age, cut back to two feedings of a 1/2 cup of puppy food, two times daily.

Types

Dry food is recommended. Feed a puppy formula until the dog reaches one year of age, or your veterinarian advises otherwise.

Significance

Look for foods that use real meat and vegetables, with no artificial ingredients. "What a dog is fed can affect him as far as future problems...so starting him with quality foods can have a life-long effect," warns the Bichon Frise Club of America.

Benefits

Proper nutrition, regular check ups, exercise and lots of love will ensure that your Bichon puppy develops into a healthy, adult dog.
