When we think of birthday cakes, we typically envision sweet and fluffy baked goods enjoyed with lots of sugary icing. However, if you want to make a birthday cake for your puppy, you'll need to think outside the box. This birthday cake recipe yields one layer cake made with ground turkey and a host of other dog-approved ingredients. It can easily be doubled to make a double-layered cake if you're expecting guests.
Step 1
Cook 1 cup of brown rice, according to the instructions on the package and set it aside.
Step 2
Hard boil 2 large eggs. Peel and slice each egg and set them aside.
Step 3
Dice the 2 carrots using a sharp kitchen knife and set it aside.
Step 4
Place the package of frozen spinach in the microwave for 5 to 8 minutes, or until it is thawed. Remove it from the package. Squeeze out excess water and set it aside.
Step 5
Combine the ground turkey, brown rice, carrots, spinach and 1 raw egg in a large mixing bowl.
Step 6
Line a 9-inch cake pan with wax paper. Pack half the turkey mixture inside. Tamp down with your hands or the back of a large spoon.
Step 7
Place the sliced boiled eggs on top. Then layer the dish with the remaining turkey mixture. Place the pan in the oven and bake at 350 degrees F for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the mixture is thoroughly cooked.
Step 8
Remove the puppy birthday cake from the oven and allow it to rest for about five minutes before removing from the pan.
Step 9
Drain off any grease that has accumulated on top of the mixture, and use a spatula to transfer the cake to a serving platter. Allow the cake to cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
