How to Make Your Own Puppy Shampoo

By Debra Turner

Making your own shampoo for your puppy or dog is easy and much more economical that buying it. The added bonus is that you know exactly what's in it, and that it won't be full of harsh chemicals or other harmful ingredients.
This recipe is safe for all breeds of all ages, and won't dry out a puppy's skin like commercial preparations often do. It's important that you don't bathe your puppy more than once a week unless absolutely necessary to avoid drying out the skin and causing itchiness.

Step 1

Mix 4 cups of water with 1 cup of white or apple cider vinegar.

Step 2

Stir in 1/3 cup of glycerin and blend it well.

Step 3

Add 1 cup of dishwashing detergent and stir gently so that the solution doesn't suds up excessively.

Step 4

Pour your puppy shampoo into containers with tight-fitting lids and shake them a little to thoroughly mix the contents.

Step 5

Use a permanent marker to label the containers and store them indefinitely in a cool, dark location.

Are you out of your mind? As someone who has made her own shampoo for years to wash her Champions, I can assure you that one cup of dishwashing detergent will ruin your puppies skin.It is one ounce not one cup. And the vinegar is used after the shampoo to cut the soap, not to be mixed with it.Where on earth did you get this recipe? From people who clean up oil spills?

i dont think n. was being harsh i just think they were trying to help hey i was surprise to read this too i mean n. did a good gesture by helping but the contents can be very dangourous and if someones puppy gets a skin disease and is killed n. can be easily sued for giving false advice .. but i do apprciate the gesture of helping, i just got a puppy that cost me 1000 $ and i dont have money like that to be buying even shampo so i was looking to see if you can bathe the puppy without shampo and just water but thats not the case althought i am grateful for the n. gestures but becareful what you put out there without being sure it can come back and hurt you some people are like that and its cruel..

Its the way she said it. Not what she is saying. It is helpful cause if i would have not read the comments I was about to make it. So maybe a little less attitude would be nice!!!
