Deagan

Irish Wolfhound
Male
No

Deagan is only five months old when this picture was taken. He is a new family member that I just brought home November 25,2008. He is so sweet and very playful. He does not know his own strength. When he stands on his hind legs he is over four feet tall. He is still growing, and will not reach full matruity until he is almost two years old. Irish Wolf Hounds are around 6ft 4inches- 7ft tall when full grown standind on their hind legs. Standing on all fours at adult hood they are nearly 4ft tall, and wiegh 90-130lbs. They come in several colors Grey,White,Brindle,Cream,Red,Black and a few more colors as well. Grey is the most common color though. Irish Wolf Hounds are the tallest dog in the world. When Deagan is full grown I will have an average size pony. Oh forgot to mention that my husband and I adopted him from the animal shelter. They said he was a special dog. They were not kidding! We both knew what he was an Irish Wolfhound as soon as we saw him on the internet, and when they took him to the vet he verified that he was indeed an Irish Wolfhound. Which I knew it already, and knew that he was just a puppy. The vet said that Deagan was around 5 months old. I have been reading online a lot about the Irish Wolfhound and found out that they are only expected to live 8 to 10 years because of there size, and many health problems. Well Deagan has checked out to be perfectly healthy, and hope throughout the years he will remain that way. I have also found out that black is very rare, especially a solid black one, and is most expensive. Oh Deagan how on earth did you come to be at the Shelter, and be on the list to be euthanized? I am so curious about what his story is?? I guess I will never know it? He was not micro chipped either, which was another surprize, but he will be now. You are so lucky that I found you Deagan, and I will never let any harm come your way again. We are so lucky to have him. He has put our smiles on our faces. We love you very much Deagan. The name Deagan is an Irish name and it means The black haired one. The only thing that I can think of is how he ended up at the shelter? Is it due to the economy some how? I do not know? I have been hearing stories about people leaving their dogs behind, because of losing their homes or just simply dumping them for lack of money to feed them. I can not imagine doing this to one of my dogs no matter what the reason. It seems to me there would have to be a better solution then doing such a thing.

To gins, The Irish Wolfhound is my husband's dream dog too. He could never afford to buy one, because they are quite expensive. So when I found him online and all they wanted to adopt him was $125.00 we went and got him. I have since found online that you can adopt this breed at Irish Wolfhound rescues. They have an application that you can fill out right online. You should check it out for your dad. It is a very long application of gathering your info. I do not know the site I found it at, but all I did was type the breed in and found it like that.

Hate to break it to you, but that dog is not even remotely an Irish Wolfhound- a male IW 6½ months of age would weigh well over 100 lbs. and actually look like an Irish Wolfhound. That's some serious wishful thinking. Go to any IW website and look at puppy photos- a blind man could tell the difference. The ears are not rosed, the backskull is too broad, there is lack of foreface, the back is too short, the chest is not deep, the coat is missing, there is no tuck, no hint of sighthound conformation anywhere on that dog. And he is seriously lacking size. Go here- http://www.iwclubofa merica.org/puppy_growth.htm 0; Just look at him- that is a Lab mix plain and simple. There is nothing wrong with being a Lab mix- why try and make him something he is not? You will of course believe what you want, but take a look at some photos before you delude yourself any further. I am sure he is a wonderful dog, but I have Irish Wolfhounds, and that is most definitely not one.
