Peggy Lee Fort Ucci

Giant Schnauzer
Female
No

Peggy Lee Fort Ucci was born on August 28th 2009. In the diminishing suburban sprawl of Metropolitan Detroit. When my wife and I first visited her , her appearance reminded me of a black rabits foot, thats how tiny she was. Her fur was of purest black, and I would hardly call it fur because it looked and felt like human hair in thickness, texture and tone. No variation in color, almost too perfect. As consistant in grade as ink from a pen. Peggy had no real facial definition. Not at all like I expected from my recollection of the very distinctive bearded schnauzer's I have seen previously. In fact she almost looked perfectly manufactured like a toddler's stuffed animal. Funny enough, this observation would later surprise a few staring kids at the outdoor mall and pet store lines. As my wife held her for the first time, I saw this black ball pulse and two white spots developed... her eyes slowly opening up finally proved the surreal tiny fuzz ball to be a real organic creature... those peaking tiny white eyes boldy stood out against the rest of her description, and as she glanced towards my wife, suddenly, I felt as if I were a new father, my wife like mother after birth... the tears started pouring. At that point I knew we were going to call her our own, and we did. On the way home I contemplated my finances in my head, never realizing how expensive puppies can be, as I blurted random female names to my wife, waiting for the winner. Peggy Lee was the pick, I think it spawned from am unconscious mistake in lyrical misinterpretation of the Bob Dylan song "Ballad of Frankie Lee". "Peggy Lee...!" She is now 5 months old and her rambunctiousness is as cute as it is exhausting. She barks in a friendly pitch when I come home late from work, maybe I am a stranger at that point still. But my wife insists its all cordial. Peggy has learned to sit, stay, go down, and believe it-or-not stand on her back two paws and walk. Tricks for treats still, but it's still worth it. Although she's the best dog ever. We are having some trouble with her. Peggy is not eating regular dog food by herself. She refuses to eat on her own during the day and sometimes even at night. When she finally gets the courage to nip in her bowl. She consumes one pebble at a time slowly chewing each one. As if they were hot tamali's, she scuffles back about a foot with her pebble, eats, then spins a few times like a maniac, and comes back for another pebble. Our concern is that she will be underweight as she grows and her habitually picky eating routine will halt advancement into a normal diet, thus unhealthy, unbalanced, and us looking like bad pet owners, and much worse even losing her to malnutrition. We hope this will change as she grows, and becomes more independent. We really could use some advice on this behavior. We have tried changing her food a few times. It's not the food. I think it's the process, but I am not sure. The vet has given us some advice and it's still not working. We have begun moving the bowl around because it takes her so long to eat her bowl of food. Which is probably isn't helping things...but we can't spend 5 hours a day feeding her from one location! We also feel she has a slight borderline seperation complex. Her anxiety heightens when my wife is not around. ( Who she spends most of her time with) If anyone has any advice, please advise! Thanks!
