Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog

Legend's mom says: Legend was adopted from German shepherd rescue nine years ago. I often describe Legend as the perfect dog because he is so well mannered; he never jumps on anyone (except me) and even asks for permission before he will step off of the carpet onto the wood floor. (My mom doesn't like it if he scratches up the floors.) Legend never forgets that he has to take care of his whole family. He reminds me that it is time for my (his) walk every day at 6:00. And when my little nephew runs around outside, Legend is always right behind him, making sure he doesn't get into too much trouble. However, Legend can also be a regular farm dog and has gotten into his share of scrapes with the odd skunk, cow, or horse. And even though he's almost 12 now, Legend still manages to keep up with the younger dogs in the neighborhood and even put them in their place if need be.

AWWW!!!! Legend is such a SWEETHEART! What a good boy. I am in love with his sweet face.

I highly recommend playing him for humor value, as well. Just get one of those "the man, the legend" t-shirts, make it say "woman" and change the arrow point to the side and down so it can point at Legend. Oh, yes. I would totally do that.

I LOVE GERMAN SHEPARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that I got that out of the way I can say how wonderful Legend is! He has such an intellegent face and eyes. He is beautiful! Almost as much as mine (quite an acomplishment)!

Thanks for all the wonderful comments. Sadly, Legend passed away (suddenly, surprisingly) just a couple of weeks ago. He was dearly loved and is dearly missed. He was, without a doubt, the most beautiful and perfect german shepherd (and, by extension, dog) ever.

OH NO! Oh, I am so sorry!! My heart goes out to you and your whole family. I thank you for sharing his photos and his story with the DailyPuppy community. You can be sure that he touched the lives of many just through this website. It sounds corny, but looking at his calm face helpes me through a really tough day filled with lots of bad news. He truly was remarkable.

It is not ever possible to replace a dog like Legend, but I certainly hope that you will adopt again. While each dog is unique, and no other dog will be just like him, it definitely helped me deal with my grief to share my time with another dog in need of a home. After all, one of the hardest parts about losing a friend like that is the emptiness you feel in your home. I still miss my baby girl, but caring for another dog helped me deal with my sadness in a productive way. Also, the newcomer was surprisingly sensitive to my sadness, and he acted almost like a therapy dog for me during the initial period of mourning.

Anyway, I know it sounds odd coming from someone from a website, but I will be thinking of you. *hugs*

Legend was a wonderful dog-- so big and handsome-- sorry for your loss-
You will have many happy memories of him-- he seemed to be a very warm, loving and protective dog. He was well loved and you can tell by the pic that he love his family

I just found "Legend" and wanted to add my appreciation of him and condolences. My gorgeous shepherd lady passed away last summer very suddenly, aged 13 years and 8 months, so I <heart> your feelings for Legend entirely. GSDs are the best!

Wow.......Legend is awesome........what a handsome old lad. He's a classic.....how noble and regal he looks.

The scary thing with large breeds is that they don't live as long as the smaller breeds. We had our beloved German Sheperd, Shayna for 14.5 years. Cherish the next few years together.

:*( My heart aches for your loss. Legend had such kind eyes. Bless you for giving him the chance to have a wonderful life. I am sure he loved you for it. Is the little Lab yours? We have two Labs and a 4 month old Shepherd puppy. They all came from Guiding Eyes for the Blind and are great friends. Again, please accept my sympathy.
