Rescued Pup

This adorable little puppy has quite the story behind her. I was out scouting for interesting areas to photograph when I came into a curious area just outside of town. I stepped out of my car and began to glance around and check for any interesting captures. On one side were beautiful woods, on the other, a rather ugly ditch filled with trash, old lumber, and a massive amount of weeds. I took a few shots of the woods and the animals, and as I worked, I couldn't help but hear movement in the ditch. I kept thinking it was a bird and ignored it. I finished up shooting and headed back towards my car, but I stopped to peek down into the ditch just to see, and boy was I shocked to see two small eyes and a snout peeping up at me from underneath a stack of wood and debris eight feet down. Me, being the CRAZY dog fanatic that I am, jumped into the ditch to save the dog. I maneuvered the trash and wood and finally got the poor dog free. I grabbed her up, scrambled up the slope of the ditch, and took her to my car for further health investigation. She was bloated, had no collar or tags, and was quite possible on the verge of sever dehydration. (I had no way of knowing how long she had been stuck in the ditch.) I quickly drove home and called my brother up so he would be ready with a bowl of water for the dog. Late, after we got her bathed, fed, and let her get some sleep, I had my brother ask around to see if someone would be interested in adopting her, and sure enough, someone was more than eager to take her in. She is now very healthy and is doing well with her new owners. All of this happened just a few months after a beloved dog of mine, Cindi, passed away… I’d been in a bad way since her passing; Cindi had been a constant in my live for over 12 years, and I didn’t know what to do with myself without my dingo look-alike around. She had escaped the fence and had been hit by a car. I was, and still am, devastated. Now, however, I’ve saved the life of a dog and helped a needy animal gain a life. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more resembling of the circle of life than that. Remember folks, adoption saves a life. :)

This is my (now dog) Todd. This photo was taken back last summer when he was about 6 months old and still concidered a puppy. He was a crazy, chew-everything, run around yapping puppy, that made you feel like a little kid again, and I kinda miss having him that way. He had the biggest paws that made him look so adorably akward! Oh, good times! I love him now though, as an adult. He's calmed down a bit, but he's still got spunk. Way too much for a dog his size! 120lbs shouldn't be jumping on me in the middle of the night!
