Puppy: No Puppies
Profile: APOLLO (4-5 years) - I needed him as much as he needed me. I adopted Apollo from a shelter in 2008. He rescued me from anxiety in return for my unconditional love... an easy trade! He's absolutely perfect. ROCKY (2-3 years) - In 2010, a family friend called us. She had rescued a dog from the backyard of an abusive man whom she lived near. I knew why she was calling and instantly said yes. Rocky took to Apollo immediately, and with his encouragement, it wasn't long until he loved us just as well. With plenty of patience and training, Rocky is no longer scared of every man he sees. You would never guess that he was once a frightened puppy at the hands of an abusive drunk. IGGY (1 year) - A few months ago, a woman who lives across the hall in my apartment complex told me "I'm getting rid of this damn dog". I wasn't aware that she had a dog at all! Apparently, she thought that having a chihuahua would be like having a cat with attitude. She had him for three weeks and hadn't taken him outside of her apartment even once. He didn't come to his name and cowered when she talked loudly to him. So she was "tired of this damn thing". I told her I'd find him a home. I went in her house and found him shaking in the corner. He was malnourished and loosing hair from stress. She was yelling at him for being scared of her. I wrapped him up in a towel and brought him home. By the very next day, he was already warmed up to Rocky, Apollo, and us. He got his appetite back and was amazed to see the outside world. He's still making progress with his human interactions, but once again, Apollo is here encouraging him everyday.
