We had been looking for a new dog for awhile when we came across Riley the labbe, and we instantly knew she was the one. Her dad was a yellow lab and her mom was a tri-colored beagle. We purchased her from a puggle breeder in Tennessee and had her flown to us in Anchorage, Alaska. Unfortunately while she was being shipped to us, Mt. Redoubt erupted and her connecting flight from Minneapolis was cancelled. While she was in Minneapolis, she was taken from the airport to a local kennel for 3 consecutive days before they were able to fly into Anchorage again. We were so happy to finally get her as she was such an adorable and lovable puppy. She absolutely loved her kennel, and was already well on her way with her potty training. Unfortunately, within a week of having her, she had gotten deathly ill. Within 24 hours, she was uncontrollably vomiting until all stomach contents were purged, would not eat or drink, and was absolutely lethargic. The next day we took her to the vet, and she ended up testing positive for parvovirus. You could say at the least, that we were totally crushed when we were told that she had only a 20-30% chance of survival. We immediately started treatment, and Riley spent the next week off and on being a resident in the pet emergency being treated 24/7. Fortunately, Riley reacted well to the treatments, and was finally able to come back home! We were so elated that she was able to beat parvo. Everyday she has been back home has proven better than the last. Her energy levels are now through the roof, and she is taking quite well to training. The beagle/lab mixes are soooo smart. In a matter of a week, she learned to sit, lie down, shake, and stay. She has also started to wait by the back door in order to be let out to go potty. Riley is such a good dog. So far, we have noticed that she is taking on many beagle traits such as the bark/howl, and following her highly sensitive nose. However, I also believe that the Labrador side of her in regards to training is complimentary as well. Though she is currently only 3 months, she is showing signs of being a great companion as an adult. For anyone thinking about getting a labbe, I would definitely recommend it. They are great with kids, other pets, and other people. They just love to socialize and play. They also have a cuddly side, and are very lovable. Also, like I said, they also appear to be extremely intelligent. However, since the labbe or beagadore seems to be a fairly new designer breed, they do not have much information available on the web. So, we would be greatly interested in hearing what other labbe owners have to say about there pet's demeanor, personalities, and training methods. So, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to drop us an email. Thanks Brent and Sarah
