On a walk one night our beagle, Clank, found Ratchet, a nine-ounce newborn puppy lying abandoned in a patch of grass. He was only a day or two old. We rushed him to an emergency clinic and were told he was critical. He had hypothermia and they had to slowly begin warming him up and start him on fluids. He pulled through and we took him home the next day to begin the process of round-the-clock bottle feedings. He's now a happy, healthy almost-five-month-old and we are grateful to have him in our lives. We aren't sure of his breed but are leaning toward pit bull, French mastiff or perhaps a pit bull / mastiff mix. Ratchet loves playing with his toys, chewing things he shouldn't, playing with Clank, snoring while he sleeps and acting like a lap dog.
